This video was passed to me by a Chinese academic colleague. He has been using it (with many similar clips) as a means to teach Chinese teenagers (16-18) about what US (White) “racism” is – and how it manifests! This is important as many ethnic Chinese people will either meet visiting Westerners – or travel themselves to the West – where they will encounter an avalanche of racially motivated abuse! The Chinese government used to allow a “natural” inoculation process to take place – but the racism has become so bad that this policy has changed to one of using ‘knowledge’ and ‘experience’ as a protective barrier. How the US (Western) mind works is examined as being an important part of ‘White’ hegemony.
This suggests that (White) ‘Europeans’ all share a similar detrimental view of ALL “non-White” people – but that the extent of this racist viewpoint varies between culture (and between members of within these cultures). Interestingly, it is quite often the case that Black and Asian people who have been unquestionably ‘integrated’ into US society – adopt (subconsciously) these “White” racist attitudes that are deployed against people who possess bodies similar to their own. When this happens to people of Arab origination, the British academic – Edward Said – termed this to be the process of “Orientalism”.
Basically, this is when a Black and Asian victim of “White” society actively engages in the voluntary taking on – and then deploying – of “White” racist attitudes against people who share the same ethnic background as themselves! In the days of the Western domination of China – such despicable people were termed “Rice Christians”! These were ethnic Chinese people who gave-in to Western domination and converted to Christianity as a means to get a portion of “rice” the local Christian Churches were handing out! The Christians “stole” this rice first (thus creating a “shortage”) – before dramatically exercising their concept of “charity”!
