Author’s Note: The far-right is on the march and is taking its cue from the election of the US fascist – Trump. Whilst claiming an ultra-nationalist position of loyalty toward all things “British” – the UK far-right encourages the British youth that it misleads and abuses – to resort to the use of American English and communicate in a shallow, brainless, and politically illiterate US lexicon (everything becomes a different-coloured “pill” – all the “u’s” and “a’s” are removed from important and everyday words, whilst “bunches” of flowers become “bunches of people” (rather than a “group”), etc.
Furthermore, due to the wall-to-wall nature of US anti-intellectualism – much of British English grammar is missing from American English. Indeed, books published for a US audience are so appallingly ignorant that they must be re-printed in the English-style if they are to be accepted in the UK. The News Channels the Americans watch on their TVs are replaced with versions that are altered to meet international standards – so poor are their intellectual levels of engagement. A dumbed-down working-class is easier to control and oppress – and maintain in that deficient state. And here-in lies the reason the British far-right mass-imports a foreign way of speaking English – whilst claiming to be preserving English culture!
It is like flying the Cross of St George – an emblem discovered in Palestine by Richard the Lion-Heart in the 12th century – but which did not become a national flag until the 14th century. Most English people of that time served under the feudal banner of their local Lord – and this is from where local (regional) flags derive. On a feudal battle ground, when the armed serfs took to the field (serfs had no choice but to fight when ordered to do so) – an observer could tell where each group of fightingmen was from (and which Lord led them) by the banners they flew. Only the King (an absolute monarch) possessed the right to carry what he decreed to be the national flag – with anyone else daring to do so – was sentenced immediately to death.
This is the traditional legal position. Indeed, prior to the foreign St George (found in Palestine) being shuffled into Kingly favour – the Patron Saint of England was St Edmund – a 9th century former Saxon King who died on the battlefield defending his crown – prior to the Norman Conquest (of 1066). The Catholic Church assumed State power in 1066 and took just a hundred years to destroy the Celtic Church. When St Edmund lived, a united England did not yet exist, and England was comprised of many different countries. There were Celts, Romano-British (Celts mixed with Italians), Saxons, Angles, Danes, and Jutes, etc. The Celtic Church had spread from Egypt to Ireland (and had nothing to do with Rome or the Catholic Church) – and from Ireland to the Western side of Britain.
The Catholic Church was in England prior to 1066 – but it did not possess State power. The countries of England followed various types of Paganism (at one point the majority belief), Celtic Christian and Catholic Christian, etc. Once the Catholic Church destroyed the Celtic Church (falsely stating that Pagans had carried-out the attacks) – the Vatican then destroyed the established Saints of the Celtic Church. As Edmund was a Patron Saint prior to the Catholic Church taking power – the Vatican was not keen to keep him as an emblem of England. The Vatican much preferred a foreign Saint (St George) picked-up in the Middle East during one of the Crusades it had caused.
St George murdered Muslims, Jews, and Orthodox Christians – and was a much better role-model for the Vatican. St George is a foreigner who has nothing to do with the England. He is an undocumented migrant who the far-right cannot help but support! It is ironic that his image is currently flying from every lamppost as a form of modern race-baiting! What a ridiculous situation this all is. Thuggery and stupidity in equal measure. The far-right is the king of liars. ACW (21.8.2025)
The Red Flag belongs to the International Working Class and not to any constituent country that might fly it. The Soviet Red Flag belonged not to Russia – but to the 15 countries that comprised the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics – this was the USSR (the “Communist Bloc” was a separate entity comprised of those Eastern European States liberated by the Soviet Red Army post-1945 – with Yugoslavia initially joining in 1945 – and then leaving the USSR in 1948). Even then, this Red Flag was not the sole possession of these countries – it belonged to the entirety of humanity. When I march with the Red Flag – I am carrying the emblem of an International Working Class freed from the oppression inflicted by predatory capitalism.
If the Working Class is not yet free – then carrying the Red Flag represents hope and defiance of the status quo – whilst simultaneously serving notice of the intention of the Proletariat to seize the means of production. The Red Flag is not a statement of allegiance to a (fake) bourgeois notion of nationalist belonging. The Red Flag is not a confirmation of an ethnic or religious outlook. The Red Flag is not a statement of gender or sexual orientation. The Red Flag represents much more than all these passing things. Workers are first and foremost Proletariats – as we have nothing to sell but our labour. Only after this “Internationalist” and “Collective” identity is acknowledged do things like countries, religions, identities, gender, and sexual orientation, etc, come into play.
These things, although important, are subordinate to the requirement for the working class to organise around workers’ rights and working conditions. Through taking control of workplace via the unions – can the means of production be seized. If workers can rid society of the terrible crime that is capitalist exploitation – then all the other problems will fall away as general oppression ceases and a new reality (free of the compressed and violent capitalist intention) disappears. Just as the outer body is relieved of the environmental oppression inflicted by capitalism – the mind regains its inner pristine state and is freed from worry and fear.
New and magnificent thoughts are produced in a body that is able to move in any direction. This is the ideal state of the collectively free worker. Before this sublime state is reached, however, the bourgeoisie will not want to give up its class privilege without a fight. Many of us may have to give up our bodies for the betterment and benefit of the collective whole be they from the past, living in the present, or yet to be born in the future. This why our flag is “red” – as it is drenched in the blood of workers in the past, present, and future. Our duty, first and foremost, is to overthrow predatory capitalism and seize the means of production. All over issues will resolve themselves when this task is complete. Do mot be afraid to die – do not be afraid to live. The Red Flag belongs to humanity – be proud to carry and fly it!
