This Tuesday afternoon, with the presence of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the Youth Forum “I believe in you” took place, from which the new generations from different latitudes spoke about the legacy of the Commander in Chief. The conference was held in the context of the First International Colloquium “Fidel: legacy and future”, on its second day.
Ambassador Hua Xin described the equipment as a gift from the Chinese people, stating that Beijing will keep supporting Cuba on the path toward energy sovereignty and will work together to build a closer community of shared future. He added that the donation is part of the Belt and Road Initiative and a tribute to Fidel Castro, while contributing to improving well‑being and strengthening energy progress across Cuba’s 169 municipalities.
All the ingredients are there for radical left-wing politics – but of course – this collective bargaining power has been used in a very specific manner. Obviously, this is not your average worker and the amounts are obscene when you consider a Nurse will yearn around £25,000 a year (after tax). Still, that is the world of predatory capitalism. Amateur (grass-roots) football in England sees eleven men turn-up every weekend and play for 90 minutes – for free. Add to this how expensive ticket prices are to attend Premier League games live (£75 per match on average) or about the same to watch each match on live-TV – and it is clear that the business of football empowers a very small section of the working-class – at the expense of the material well-being of the lumpen-proletariat. I have heard stories told of men out of work spending their dole money not on feeding their families – but instead attending a 90-minute game. The fans fuel the game – but so does business investment – and here in lies the crux of the matter with FIFA. Exploiting the workers to enrich a few workers is just part of the beautiful game. Business does its part as popular players boost brand sales – and brand sales raise the value of popular players. These players are not building time machines, perfecting space travel, or finding a cure for cancer – but are kicking around a ball full of air – as a leisure activity. It has been said that like religion – football is like an opium of the masses – but it does not have to be that way. Ironically, whilst paying for their National Squads, players do not receive their huge domestic salaries (there may be a nominal fee per match – around £2000 – which in the case of England is donated to charity) – although they will obviously benefit from the publicity regarding their ongoing sponsorship deals. It is the profitable association with success and glamour which fuels this lucrative machine. Still, it would appear that Players’ Unions (which have no moral qualms exploiting their fellow working-class) draw the line at openly associating themselves with the murderous regime of Israel and its genocidal policies in Gaza (and elsewhere). good for them. Zionism is racist – just look at how poorly Iran (and other Islamic countries) were treated at the 2026 World Cup!
He said it is a vivid feature of the relations between China and the DPRK that they support and cooperate with each other, share destiny and protect and help each other, adding that Comrade General Secretary Xi Jinping and Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Un met seven times to lead the traditional China-DPRK friendship to open a new chapter of history.
He said that the firm stand of the Chinese party and government placing great importance on China-DPRK friendship will remain unchanged and the firm support for the cause of Korean socialism led by Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Un will never be changed, adding that the Chinese side will, together with the DPRK side, hold aloft the banner of socialism and ensure that the baton of Chinese-DPRK friendship is handed down through generations.
LDJ: Taking into account this recent history of aggression against Venezuela, against Iran, while these negotiations were taking place, is there fear in Cuba that, at the same time that they are trying to dialogue with the United States, they are plotting?
MDC: There is a perception in Cuba that there is a danger of aggression. A danger of aggression, because they are constantly saying it. We are not saying it, they are saying it.
We have mobilized the population for defense. Every Friday is National Defense Day. The people are preparing. We have updated all the plans for the defense readiness.
We have the example of what it means to know how to defend oneself: the 32 combatants in Venezuela. Those did fight. They were able to stop the action of an elite force of the United States that surpassed them in technology, in numbers, in weapons and, in addition, because of the element of surprise. And yet, they fought heroically. There were thirty-two of them. What will not become of millions of Cubans willing to defend their homeland, to defend the Revolution?
In a message addressed to Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil Pinto, Mr. Thongsavanh expressed deep sorrow over the impact of the earthquakes, reported to have measured magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, which caused casualties and extensive property damage in Caracas and surrounding areas.
On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the people of the Lao PDR, he conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as well as to the families of those affected by the disaster.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that, through the determination of the Venezuelan government and its people, the country would overcome the challenges posed by the earthquakes and achieve a swift recovery and reconstruction of the affected communities.
