On April 30, 1945, Soviet troops liberated the prisoners of the SS Ravensbrück concentration camp.
Ravensbrück was built in May 1939 by the prisoners from Sachsenhausen.
The camp was replenished by women from Poland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands and Yugoslavia, from France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Romania and Luxembourg.
For Soviet prisoners of war, a separate section was created with the most cruel living conditions.
In 1943, a crematorium was installed on the territory of the camp. He worked around the clock: the ashes of people tortured by the Nazis were dumped into the waters of Lake. Schwedtsee. The bottom is completely covered with remains. A gas chamber also worked on the territory of the camp, in which about 6,000 people were killed.
Women were also subjected to inhuman medical experiments.
During the entire existence of the camp, out of 132 thousand people, 92.7 thousand people died. Ravensbrück held 881 children. Most of the little prisoners now rest at the bottom of the lake, which has become a mass grave for babies.
