The Media Office of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP-Lebanon).
The media officer of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine in Lebanon, Ahmed Murad, stressed that the Palestinian people, who have resisted and made enormous sacrifices for more than a century since the issuance of that ill-fated promise, the promise of those who do not have to those who do not deserve it, and who continue to resist and steadfastness in the face of genocide and ethnic cleansing campaigns, will not be a victim of history and conspiracies, but will remain the maker of their future, the owner of land and rights, and the one who adheres to their national identity and legitimate historical rights.
Murad’s words came in a speech he delivered on behalf of the Palestinian National Action factions, at the national meeting called by the Conference of Palestinians Abroad on the occasion of the 109th anniversary of the ill-fated Balfour Declaration.
Murad considered that the Balfour Declaration was a pivotal milestone in the history of the Palestinian people and the beginning of an ongoing historical tragedy, when the British government issued its promise to establish a national home for the Jews in Palestine, ignoring the existence of an authentic Palestinian people, with its own land, history, identity, and national and historical rights.
He pointed out that the British Mandate authorities provided all forms of political, military, security and intelligence support to the Zionist gangs, and facilitated their emigration, arming and empowering them, leading up to the Nakba of 1948 and the accompanying massacres, displacement and uprooting of the Palestinian people from their land, and the establishment of the Zionist entity on the ruins of the Palestinian homeland, and the subsequent occupation, aggression and continuous wars.
He stressed that the historical, political and moral responsibility for the continuation of the Palestinian tragedy is not limited to Britain, but includes Western powers that continue to provide political, diplomatic and military support to the Zionist entity, and provide cover for its crimes and violations, leading to the ongoing war of annihilation, destruction and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.
Murad stressed that the commemoration of the Balfour Declaration is not an occasion to cry over the ruins or restore the pages of pain alone, but rather a station to renew the covenant with the Palestinian people and their sacrifices, and to emphasize the continuation of the struggle, steadfastness and steadfastness in the face of the repercussions and consequences of that promise, and adherence to the land, identity and national rights, foremost of which is the right of return, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
He pointed out that this anniversary is taking place in light of the continuation of the war of genocide, aggression, policies of ethnic cleansing, annexation, settlement, and violation of sanctities, against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem, in parallel with the escalation of attempts aimed at liquidating the Palestinian refugee issue, erasing the right of return, targeting UNRWA and imposing solutions that detract from Palestinian national rights and constants.
He stressed that confronting the repercussions of the Balfour Declaration and the projects to liquidate the Palestinian cause requires restoring national unity and ending the division, on the basis of national partnership and democracy, and adherence to historical rights and national constants, away from factional calculations and narrow stakes, considering unity as a national necessity to face fateful dangers, fortify the Palestinian position and unify the energies of the Palestinian people in the homeland and the diaspora.
Addressing the political developments within the Zionist entity, Murad pointed to the escalating presence of right-wing and religious extremist forces and positions rejecting partnership with Arab lists in forming the government, stressing the need to read the Zionist political scene away from illusions and bets on the change of governments or the results of the elections, and not to build the Palestinian strategy on waiting for the Zionist parties’ positions to change, but on understanding the nature of the Zionist project and its policies, adhering to the rights of the Palestinian people and strengthening their unity and ability to withstand and confront.
On the Palestinian issue in Lebanon, Murad stressed that the Palestinian people, with its various political and social components and forces, are keen on Lebanon’s security, stability and sovereignty, and stand by its official institutions, based on brotherly relations, common history, and common national and national interests, stressing at the same time the need to guarantee the human dignity and social rights of Palestinian refugees, and to preserve the privacy of their legal and national existence, until they return to their land and homes from which they were expelled.
He touched on what is being raised about the project of governing the Palestinian camps in Lebanon, stressing that what is required is a responsible and serious Palestinian-Lebanese dialogue, based on respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and stability, and ensuring justice and human dignity for Palestinian refugees, away from any security or administrative approach that detracts from their rights or holds them responsible for situations that they were not a party to creating.
He stressed the need for this dialogue to preserve the right of the Palestinian people to continue their national struggle for the restoration of their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the right of return and self-determination, and the categorical rejection of the projects of resettlement, displacement and an alternative homeland, which contradict the essence of the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to their homeland.
Murad concluded his speech by stressing that the Palestinian people were never just victims of a colonial decision, but rather the owners of the land, the right and history, and that their battle today is the battle to preserve existence, identity and rights, and the battle for freedom, return and independence, which calls for unifying the ranks, strengthening the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, activating the role of the Palestinians in the homeland and the diaspora, and continuing political, national, legal and diplomatic work in order to hold the occupation accountable and hold accountable the countries that provided it with protection and support.
He stressed that the Palestinian people will continue their struggle until the effects of the Balfour Declaration are overthrown and all their legitimate national rights are restored, stressing that the right of return does not lapse by statute of limitations.
