Blogger’s Note: A few years ago, WHO travelled to the DPRK and assessed the “free at the point of use” medical system. WHO declared the DPRK medical system to be the best in the world – “paid” or “free”. The US (I believe it was Obama) demanded that WHO recognise that North Korea is supposedly an “oppressive State” that routinely “murders” and “tortures” its citizens. The WHO representatives stated that they had free movement throughout the country – and that they never say any evidence of such oppression. However, following further US threats – WHO added a ridiculous line to their otherwise positive report – stating the US was of the opposite opinion. The US does not care about material truth – but perpetuates a religious-type “faith” about something that does not exist. The bourgeois class will perpetuate its liberalism and capitalism at any cost – and will never permit Socialism to win. To this end – Cuba is on the brink of collapse. What is interesting to see is that the DPRK appears to be “advertising” its health-system. The USSR treated all people for free regardless of where they were from – this is Socialist medicine. The British NHS used to do this until the 1980s – when Thatcher switched the onus from unlimited “care” to limited “cost” – as a precursor to its privatisation. Today, the working British people pay for the NHS through taxation – but receive very little for their money. Only recently arrived migrants (who have never contributed) receive full and free healthcare because the Human Rights Act demands they be treated this way. This is a sure way of destroying a Socialist medical system – as those British without care envy and resent those recent arrivals who receive the highest levels of care. Although the answer should be to return the NHS to “care” over “cost” – this will not happen as the onus is always toward capitalism. When migrants arrived in the 1960s, everyone – British or not – received the highest quality of care on the NHS. Medical treatment only becomes an issue when it is rationed. Of course, I do not know whether the DPRK will charge for medical care – this is an issue I need to research further. Considering how many sanctions are applied to the DPRK by the West – I suppose it would be “just” to charge Europeans – although not strictly speaking acting in accordance with the spirit of Socialism! Pyongyang, July 28 (KCNA) — The DPRK has many natural resources for medical tourism specially good for health and treatment of the people.
Among them are mineral waters and hot springs including Kangso Mineral Water, Sokwang Temple Mineral Water, Sambang Mineral Water, Paektu Hot Spring, Hwangjin Hot Spring, Yangdok Hot Spring and Ryonggang Hot Spring.
There are also the resources for mud treatment such as mud in Lake Sijung and Kwangryang Bay and many resources for climate treatment including clear and clean air and beautiful landscape.
Such natural resources are effective in treating various diseases including high blood pressure and rheumatic, skin, spinal, gynaecological and gastrointestinal diseases, eczema and diabetes.
In particular, insam, platycodon, Ganoderma and Rhododendron are well known to the world and in great demand among tourists.
The famous Armillaria in Mt Chilbo area is popular for its nutritive value and efficiency in treatment and Kaesong Koryo insam is used as a basic material for making Koryo medicines as it has distinct medicinal effect on various diseases.
Besides, there are other resources like antler, musk, sea-cucumber and ear shell. (End)
