We have made a model of a T-34/76 and T-34/85 Soviet Red Army Tank used during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). We will paint in time for May 9th! This is from the Airfix 1/76 range which is quite small but manageable. When I was young, these models were much bigger. We have spent a week assembling bit by bit. Interestingly, the plastic model mimics the metal kits that used to arrive in the factories in Stalingrad to be constructed by the workers – which included Disabled people. Tank crews would often train on wooden models and wait by the factory doors for each new tank to appear. These brave men and women would then drive directly to the frontline to confront the Nazi Germans. We will paint these models and add scenery and Soviet Red Army soldiers. Each tank has a main cannon (short for the T-34/76 and long for the T-34/85) and a single machine gun situated at the front (to the right and underneath the cannon) and two separate machine guns situated equidistant apart at the rear.
