Translator’s Note: Of course, as a direct descendent of two British WWII military Veterans – I am ashamed that the bourgeois (elected) governments – be they Tory, LibDems or Labour – have followed the US path of arming and supporting Neo-Nazism in Ukraine as a pretext to move NATO Forces up to the Russian border. For me, May 8th – May 9th signifies something much more than merely vague notions of British or Russian nationalism – it signifies the Victory of the International Working-Class (Socialism) over fascism and capitalism! VE Day is a Victory of Socialism (in those days headed by the USSR – of which Russia was just one of the fifteen constituent countries) over both fascism and capitalism. By and large, despite my relative’s frontline service during WWII – Veteran Associations in the UK treat us like sh’t because we are poor, multicultural, and have disability in our family. Even though we are just ordinary people (nothing of any worth to the exploiting society around us) – we remain proud of our ancestors who took up the gun to fight Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito (in the UK and Hong Kong). We hoped, as allies of the Socialist USSR, a better world would develop after 1945.
It did to a certain extent, but the bourgeoisie soon took it all away. I wish Khrushchev had not betrayed Stalin in 1956, and the Soviet people had not betrayed their 1917 Revolution in 1991! We can all wish – but that does not mean we will get what we wish for. I would proudly march – wearing my (paternal) grandfather’s (Alfred Wyles) medals – in a parade of the Ox & Bucks Light Infantry, but this Regiment no longer exists, being purged in the post-1991 euphoria experienced by the Tories! As we refuse to have nothing to do with the right-wing British Legion – this leaves us isolated. The Royal Navy Patrol Service Association does its best – but despite all my best efforts – those who run it have no interest in the likes of us. Oh yes – they checked everything we said about Arthur Gibson (my maternal grandfather) – because they thought we were making-up stories of association. When Arthur Gibson suffered a stroke and paralysis in 1987, the British Legion “refused” to financially assist his family on the grounds that he fought in a theatre alongside the USSR (the “Russian Arctic Convoys”).
We were told that it would be “embarrassing” for the British Legion if a Soviet newspaper reported the story at the time. Luckily for us, a different organisation came to my grandfather’s assistance. From 1942-1945 he fought everyday in the North Atlantic. Recently, the “Russian Arctic Convoy Museum” – voted to remove the word “Russian” from its title – can you believe that? I stood with Veterans of these fine and brave men at the Soviet War Memorial in the grounds of the Imperial War Museum – and everyone of them had a positive viewpoint of the USSR and Russia. Like my grandfather (Arthur Gibson) these brave men were not permitted to march at the London Cenotaph (primarily by the Royal British Legion) due to their association with the Soviet Union. Ironically, the Soviet War Memorial was unveiled in 1999 – when “New” Labour was still pretending to be “left-wing”! Finally, all those loyal British military Veterans who had fought alongside our Soviet allies during WWII – were permitted a spot where they could finally parade and carry their flags with honour and dignity! To my mind, these men are the best people the UK has ever produced. They not only fought in a brutal war against an inhuman enemy – but they silently bore the injustice they experienced afterwards – inflicted by their own country! I suspect some were left-wing (this used to be common in the old days) – but I know not all were – but they were all “fair” and this is part of the British character that is disappearing nowadays as we are forced into accepting a US-culture we do not want.
We are not Western European – we are Celts that spread throughout the world and mixed with those we encountered. This is how Englishness became “Britishness” – and I know that not everything is rosy in the garden – but why should it be? Conflict can be nourishing and progressive – just as it can be the exact opposite. Everyone has to find their space in this country – and constructively defend it. The Indians and Chinese originally came from the British colonies (my Hakka relatives fought the Imperial Japanese in the New Territories after the British surrender on Xmas Day – 1941).
As no British (White) people would employ them – they invented the ingenious idea of selling their food to the very racists who did not want them in the UK! (The same racists were absolutely fine with these people being subjugated throughout the British Empire). When a very young child being relentlessly bullied at school – I was taken in by the children of the Vietnamese Boat People – who kept me protected in the middle of their huddle at breaktimes whilst the White children randomly beat them up. Although some of my Chinese relatives have disliked the Vietnamese (for historical reasons) I have never agreed with this and have always got on with these noble people who once defeated China, Japan, France, and even the US! I have written before how I lived with British Muslims for over a year – and with British Hindus – I have seen both sides of the coin.
For a time, I even had British Black friends – but being “Black” is a complex situation as any Black people will tell you – if they know you well and trust you. Black people have to put up with a sh’tload of crap that emerges from the degeneracy of the White mind. Being “White” (sort of) I can say these things. Sometimes, I think Black people are the most Revolutionary. You see, all this is important because we must live a life in opposition to fascism. It is no good marching down a street once a year and giving lip-service to anti-fascism – and then voting Reform UK or supporting some other bizarre and degenerate far-right movement. Isolation, a lack of education, poverty, exclusion, and mental illness leads to the supporting of fascism. Perhaps these people need treating as much as they need punishing. Simply placing them in prison with other degenerates does no good in the end. If anything, imprisonment is a chance for these people to perfect their skills. ACW (9.5.2025)
