UXO Lao Destroys Three 500-Pound Bombs in Attapeu Province

The UXO Lao field team in Attapeu Province destroyed three large MK 82 GPLD bombs weighing 500 pounds each during operations conducted May 17-19 in Phouvong District.
The unexploded bombs were discovered in a potato field in Vonglakon Village owned by a local resident identified as Mr. Hat.
After surveying and identifying the bombs, UXO Lao teams coordinated with local authorities and informed nearby residents about the planned destruction process.
Following safety assessments, the bombs were moved approximately 1,500 metres away from the community to a secure demolition site.
Authorities said the explosives were destroyed using low-order demolition techniques in accordance with technical safety standards.
The operation was conducted to ensure the safety of local residents and prevent potential risks from unexploded ordnance remaining from US aggression in Laos.
NOTE: In other Laotian articles – what the US did through indiscriminately blanket-bombing Laos during the 1960s and 1970s – is often referred to as a “holocaust” which killed and wounded millions. Today, unexploded bombs continue to kill and maim Laotian men, women, and children – leading to high-levels of disability.
