Indeed, the latest financial scandal to hit this Ukrainian-US attack on Russia involves Ukrainians – who are also Israeli citizens. I think you can see where I am going with this. I am told that regardless of national government policy – the Roman Catholic Church – the influence of which permeates North, Central, and South America (as well as Central and Eastern Europe) – fully supports Neo-Nazi Ukraine, and is using its influence to encourage young men to volunteer for the meat-grinder in Donbass (one recent British estimate puts Ukrainian casualties at 1.7 million). Religion is a major contributing factor to all world conflicts (be it Judaism, Christianity, or Islam). Support for one side other another should not be taken to automatically imply siding with the religion of that preferred side. Under Biden, for instance, Colombia appeared untroubled by America’s official Russophobia and its support for Neo-Nazi Ukraine – but since the advent of Trump II’s overt and pronounced anti-Colombian racism at home (ICE) and abroad – perhaps this has switched the pendulum firmly baxk in the other direction. Colombian President Gustavo Petro affirmed that the Palestinian people’s struggle is a natural extension of the national liberation movement in Latin America, considering Palestine a mirror of Colombia’s struggle against occupation and colonialism.
In a televised address, Petro stressed that his country’s principled stance on the Palestinian issue stems from the values of justice and freedom upon which the Colombian revolution was founded, saying:
“Colombia’s support for Palestine is not a diplomatic luxury, but a moral and historical commitment to a people who are resisting colonialism just as we have resisted it.”
The Colombian president added that his inclusion on the US list of drug traffickers “is nothing but a political punishment for my anti-genocide stance in Gaza and my public support for the Palestinian people,” noting that these measures are part of the policy of hegemony and blackmail practiced by colonial powers against free countries.
Petro said in his speech:
“We stood with Palestine because we know exactly what it means to have your land taken away and to have wars and sanctions imposed on you. The Palestinian struggle is part of Colombia’s revolutionary history and its values of defending humanity and freedom.”
Colombia has taken a series of pro-Palestinian stances in recent months, most notably cutting diplomatic ties with Israel, calling for the prosecution of Israeli leaders for war crimes in Gaza, and announcing the opening of a Colombian embassy in Ramallah.
Petro’s remarks come at a time of escalating tensions between Bogota and Washington, after the US Treasury Department placed him on sanctions lists for “failing to combat drug trafficking,” a move described by observers as “political revenge for his pro-Palestinian stance and opposition to Israeli and American policies in the region.”

أكد الرئيس الكولومبي غوستافو بيترو أن نضال الشعب الفلسطيني هو امتداد طبيعي لمسيرة التحرر الوطني في أميركا اللاتينية، معتبراً أن فلسطين تمثل مرآة لنضال كولومبيا ضد الاحتلال والاستعمار.
وفي خطاب متلفز، شدد بيترو على أن موقف بلاده المبدئي من القضية الفلسطينية نابع من قيم العدالة والحرية التي قامت عليها الثورة الكولومبية، قائلاً:
“وقوف كولومبيا إلى جانب فلسطين ليس ترفاً دبلوماسياً، بل التزام أخلاقي وتاريخي مع شعب يقاوم الاستعمار كما قاومناه نحن.”
وأضاف الرئيس الكولومبي أن إدراجه على قائمة تجار المخدرات من قبل الولايات المتحدة “ليس سوى عقوبة سياسية بسبب موقفي المناهض للإبادة في غزة ودعمي العلني للشعب الفلسطيني”، مشيراً إلى أن تلك الإجراءات تأتي ضمن سياسة الهيمنة والابتزاز التي تمارسها القوى الاستعمارية على الدول الحرة.
وقال بيترو في خطابه:
“لقد وقفنا مع فلسطين لأننا نعرف تماماً معنى أن تُسلب أرضك وتُفرض عليك الحروب والعقوبات. نضال الفلسطينيين جزء من تاريخ كولومبيا الثوري، ومن قيمها في الدفاع عن الإنسان والحرية.”
وكانت كولومبيا قد اتخذت سلسلة من المواقف المساندة لفلسطين خلال الأشهر الماضية، أبرزها قطع العلاقات الدبلوماسية مع إسرائيل، والدعوة إلى محاكمة قادة الاحتلال على جرائم الحرب في غزة، إلى جانب الإعلان عن فتح سفارة كولومبية في رام الله.
وتأتي تصريحات بيترو في وقت تتصاعد فيه التوترات بين بوغوتا وواشنطن، بعد أن صنّفته وزارة الخزانة الأميركية ضمن قوائم العقوبات بحجة “الفشل في مكافحة تهريب المخدرات”، وهي خطوة وصفها مراقبون بأنها “انتقام سياسي من موقفه الداعم لفلسطين والمناهض للسياسات الإسرائيلية والأميركية في المنطقة”.
