Xinhuanet, Beijing, June 10th, 2020, (Xinhua) — General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission – Xi Jinping (习近平) – received a visit from the 11th Panchen Lama Erdeni Chokyi Jeb (额尔德尼·确吉杰布 – E Er De Ni Que Ji Jie Bu) in Zhongnanhai on the June 10th,2020. During this meeting, Xi Jinping encouraged him to study with diligence, practice with a pure intent, uphold the last wish of the 10th Panchen Lama, uphold the Buddhist concept of equality and compassion for all living beings, actively promote the adaptation of Tibetan Buddhism to the reality of a Socialist Society, and strive to become a person with profound Buddhist attainments and deep spiritual roots! Xi Jinping explained that a true Living Buddha is loved by all Tibetan Buddhist monastics and Tibetan lay people – and must strive to be loved by all the people of the world!
Yu Zhengsheng (俞正声) – Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference – accompanied Xi Jinping during his meeting with the 11th Panchen Lama.
The 11th Panchen Lama presented the ‘Khatta’ (哈达 – Ha Da) as a respectful tribute to Xi Jinping (which Xi Jinping gracefully accepted on behalf of the People of China) and carefully explained his spiritual and educational efforts (and exertions) he has made during the past twenty years of education and self-cultivation! Xi Jinping congratulated him on the progress he has made in all aspects of his education and self-cultivation!
Xi Jinping advised that the CPC Central Committee has always attached great importance to its work in Tibet. This year (2020) marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Tibet Autonomous Region. The Communist Party Central Committee will send a delegation to Tibet to celebrate this Festival with the Tibetan people and all other ethnic groups living throughout Tibet (and the Tibetan areas). With the guidance of the Communist Party’s Central Committee, (together with the strong support of the people of the whole country), Xi Jinping explained that by 2020, the people of all ethnic groups in Tibet have already developed a unified approach to all constructive work! This development within Tibet (and throughout the Tibetan areas), mirrors the will of the entire Chinese people! Xi Jinping explained that this is exactly ‘how’ a moderately prosperous Socialist Society is built from the foundation upwards! Therefore, all people living in Tibet have earned the right to wake-up each morning and find themselves living in a much better country!
Xi Jinping sincerely expressed a hope that the 11thPanchen Lama will inherit the glorious tradition of Patriotism and Love of Religion found within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition – with the Motherland in mind and the people in his heart – unswervingly safeguard the Unity of the Motherland and the Nation! It is necessary to actively carry-out suitable and relevant interpretations of the Buddhist doctrine (Dharma) that convey the positive ideas of promoting good over evil, equality, tolerance, alleviation poverty and the helping of the poor – concepts and ideas that are well-known aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. It is necessary to diligently study and constantly improve religious knowledge and moral self-cultivation, whilst teaching the younger generations the importance of the compatibility of ‘Socialism’ and the ‘Dharma’. This requires a perfect balance of ‘traditional’ and ‘modern’ educational strategies that not only convey the teachings of Buddhism – but includes a study of world history and the achievements of other civilisations!
The 11th Panchen Lama, in return, solemnly pledged that he must follow the example of the 10th Panchen Lama, and that he will continue to honour the country, benefit the people, and resolutely safeguard the unity of the Socialist Motherland (that has given him everything)! He pledged to bear in mind the earnest teachings of General Secretary – Xi Jinping – and that he will study hard, in order to promote the adaptation of Tibetan Buddhism to the realities of a Socialist Society! He swore to contribute to the harmony and stability of Tibet and live up to the ardent expectations of the Communist Party and the People!
This Event was also attended by Sun Chunlan (孙春兰) – Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Li Zhanshu (栗战书) – Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.

新华网北京6月10日电中共中央总书记、国家主席、中央军委主席习近平10日在中南海接受班禅额尔德尼·确吉杰布的拜见。习近平勉励他刻苦学习、努力修行，秉承十世班禅大师遗愿，秉承佛教众生平等、慈悲为怀的理念，积极促进藏传佛教与社会主义社会相适应，努力成为一位具有精深佛学造诣和深受僧俗信众爱戴的藏传佛教活佛。
中共中央政治局常委、全国政协主席俞正声陪同接受拜见。
班禅向习近平敬献了哈达，并介绍了他坐床20年来的情况，习近平对他在各方面取得的进步表示祝贺。
习近平指出，党中央历来高度重视西藏工作。今年是西藏自治区成立50周年，党中央将派出代表团赴西藏同各族人民一起庆祝这一节日。在党中央关心和全国人民大力支援下，相信到2020年西藏各族人民将同全国人民一道实现全面建成小康社会的目标，西藏各族人民的明天会更加美好。
习近平希望班禅继承藏传佛教爱国爱教的光荣传统，胸怀祖国，心系人民，坚定不移维护祖国统一和民族团结。要积极开展教义阐释，弘扬藏传佛教教义中的扬善抑恶、平等宽容、扶贫济苦等积极思想。要精进学修，不断提高宗教学识和道德修养，学习人类一切文明成果和现代科学文化知识，不断开阔自己的眼界和胸襟。最后，习近平祝班禅福慧俱增、法喜圆满。
班禅表示，一定以十世班禅大师为榜样，庄严国土、利乐有情，坚决维护祖国统一和民族团结；一定牢记习近平总书记的谆谆教导，刻苦学习，为促进藏传佛教与社会主义社会相适应和西藏的和谐稳定贡献力量，不辜负党和人民殷切期望。
