Blogger’s Note: Palestine is a complex issue and must be confusing for young people to understand. Most, for instance, do not understand that there are two Palestine sides. The Palestinian Authority (which controls the West Bank) and Hamas (which controls Gaza). The people of Gaza democratically elected an Iranian controlled Hamas in 2006 – which formally split with the Fatah-controlled PA in 2007 (following a brief civil war in Gaza). Both factions oppose Israel and one another – although PA has renounced violence whilst cooperating with Israel on the ground and occasionally conflicting with Hamas. PA is linked tp the civil disobedience campaign of “BDS” (the international economic boycott of Israeli businesses) – whilst Hamas takes direct military action (which is permitted under International Law). Indeed, the “BDS” campaign is very popular amongst ordinary Westerners – as it is legal and non-violent. Although PA is said to support Socialism – it has lost ground amongst ordinary Palestinian people due to its perceived and actual cooperation with Israeli Forces. As it conforms to Israeli dominance – PA is seen as being privileged by the West. This has led to widespread campaigns of non-tax paying across Palestine – and other civil disobedience campaigns. The US and Israel simply diverts funds to PA to prevent it from collapsing. It is a shame as PA, instead of following a neutral position – has actually adopted an antagonistic stance toward Hamas – and to be quite frank – comes across as completely compromised at times. Historically, of course, Socialist movements have resorted to armed conflict – so the position of PA is peculiar to say the least. Even if PA disagrees with Islamic-inspired militancy – it does not have to disagree with armed self-defence in principle. As matters stand, the US-backed Israeli Forces routinely break International Law – committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. As the UN has ruled – Israel is committing “genocide” in Gaza and it is doing this in-part by deliberately targeting Palestinian school-children. ACW (5.8.2026)

UNITED NATIONS, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) — Warning that Gaza remains unsafe for civilians, UN humanitarians said on Tuesday that their partners report Israeli attacks on schools for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said its partners reported that a sixth-grade student, while in a Gaza City tented classroom on Tuesday, was struck and wounded by a bullet. The child was taken to the hospital.
On Monday, in Beit Lahia, Israeli forces reportedly demolished homes, as well as the last remaining school in what was previously a four-school compound, OCHA said.
The office said Israeli forces advanced to the area, destroying the tents of nearly a dozen families sheltering in the schoolyard, and set markers on a further expansion of areas where Israeli authorities have imposed access restrictions. Humanitarian partners rapidly mobilized support for displaced people.
In the West Bank, OCHA said Israeli authorities on Tuesday demolished parts of a school in the Masafer Yatta area of southern Hebron, where more than 1,000 Palestinian residents are under pressure to leave. Across the West Bank, more than 80 Palestinian schools are currently subject to demolition or related orders.
The office said that so far this year, partners working on education have reached more than 60,000 students in the West Bank through remedial and catch-up learning programs, rehabilitated 30 schools, provided protective measures to more than 2,600 students and education personnel in high-risk areas and delivered education-specific cash assistance, psychosocial support and legal aid.
However, OCHA said funding remains critically low, with just over 10 percent of the funding required for education support secured this year.
