If you check the history books – America has a long history of being attacked by Anarchists via terrorist acts – many occurring before WWII – with very little occurring post-WWII. I think these Anarchists were imported into the United States directly from Italy. These ideological men and women came to the US as part of the Italian diaspora. Prior to WWII, many Italians opposed Mussolini’s reign (from 1922) through the use of terrorist Anarchism. With his demise in 1943 – and the Catholic Church and Italy’s new liberal democratic capitalist system opposing Socialism and left-leaning Anarchism – whilst flirting with the far-right (Operation Gladio directed by the CIA) – Anarchism as a political movement died a death. This is despite Anarchism being the logical end-product of liberal democratic (capitalist) society – freed from the constraints of a hindering State. All aspects of the State become a legitimate target for Anarchist-terrorists.
The US perceived Socialism as the main enemy as the USSR had single-handed destroyed Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. The triumphant Red Army was now in the centre of Berlin – and not the centre of Moscow – much closer to Paris and London. No Socialist country has ever attacked the US using terrorism – although some wayward leftist groups may have carried-out individualist acts claiming it to be Socialist (which is opposed to terrorism on the grounds it is Adventurism). Anarchists are untrustworthy as whilst being entirely self-serving (and a natural consequence of the hyper-individualism advocated by the capitalist system) – they are just as likely to temporarily support the right – as the left! George Orwell was a Trotskyite-Anarchist who joined an Anarchist unit in the Spanish Civil War – opposed to Socialism.
Most of the far-right are hyper-individualistic and thoroughly anarchic in their attitude and activities (these individuals are the true terrorists). Anarchists are usually pro-fascist and very rarely support any form of anti-fascist protest. Indeed, genuine anti-fascist movements are just as likely to oppose Anarchist as they are far-right movements and activities. It is clear that neither Trump (nor his Advisers) understand exactly what “Antifa” is – and how they can ban it. Just as the US declared war on the abstract concept of “Terrorism” – he has declared war (sort of) on the abstract concept of “Antifa”. This will be interesting when Special Police Units target terrorists in the US – as they will be applying an anti-fascist ideology. Trump might have to arrest his own Police if the law is to followed. It is the usual ahistorical and anti-intellectual nonsense we are used to coming out of the US.
