Today, August 13th, marks the 97th birthday of the late Fidel Castro Ruz – Commander-in-Chief – in the true sense a great leader of the Cuban Revolution! On this day, Revolutionaries around the world celebrate the birthday anniversary of one of the most important global symbols of liberation idealism in the struggle against colonialism and imperialism!
Fidel was a symbol of daring, intelligence and the defence of just causes for people seeking liberation and independence, and he made his country, despite its smallness and poverty, a model of human solidarity with impoverished peoples all over the world.
Fidel Castro stood among hundreds of Vietnamese fighters two years before the fall of Saigon, in the early 1970s, when no head of State would have dared to go to Vietnam at that time to show solidarity with its people – when he openly oppose American neo-imperialism in the region! This reflects the boldness of this leader and the sincerity of his human solidarity with the people seeking liberation from neo-imperialist domination!
Fidel was a strategic man like no other in history, he lived for his people and for the sake of the Revolution and its ideas, he was a soldier on the front lines and did much for his own people as he did for many people around the world – whilst the United States sent soldiers and weapons to any corner of the world to expand its hegemony! Instead, Fidel Castro sent Doctors and Teachers to those who needed them most!
In December 2011, the late Cuban leader entered the Guinness Book of Records as “the person surviving the most assassination attempts in the world.” It is estimated that from 1959 to 2000, 638 failed assassination attempts were carried out against Castro – most of them directed by the CIA, from poisoned cigars to poisoned ice cream!
The late Venezuelan leader, Hugo Chávez – whom they were a great friend – called him “the Czar of Dignity and Socialism” and referred to him as “the father, the comrade, the perfect strategist.”
Gabriel García Márquez, one of Castro’s friends, says that “When Fidel talked to people in the street, he spoke to them with full transparency. They told him everything without barriers, they consider him one of them. They call him “Fidel” – by his first name without a title, and he added, “When you see this scene it makes you realize that you are in front of an exceptional person.. Yes, this is the Fidel Castro that I know.”
The late Argentine football star – Diego Armando Maradona – described Castro as “the greatest in history” as he tattooed Castro on his body. In his message, Maradona admitted One day: “Fidel, if I’ve learned something with you over the years of honest and beautiful friendship, it’s that loyalty is priceless.”
Thanks to Fidel and his genuine Revolution in support of the poor and needy, Cuba is free from the misery that prevails in Latin America, as well as in the United States and in many places in Europe. There is not a single child in Cuba who sleeps on the street, suffers from hunger, or does not go to school, and despite all this, there are still many who describe Fidel as a Dictator and want to erase his legacy!

يُصادف اليوم، 13 آب/ أغسطس، الذكرى الـ 97 لميلاد الراحل فيدل كاسترو روز، القائد العام، بكل ما يحمله معنى القائد من مغزى، للثورة الكوبية. في هذا اليوم يحتفل الثوار في جميع أنحاء العالم بذكرى ميلاد أحد أهم الرموز العالمية للأفكار التحرّرية والنضال ضد الاستعمار والإمبريالية.
شكّل فيديل بشخصية رمزًا للجرأة والذكاء والدفاع عن القضايا العادلة للشعوب التي تسعى للتحرّر والاستقلال، وجعل من بلاده على الرغم من صغرها وفقرها نموذجًا للتضامن الإنساني مع الشعوب المحتاجة في كل بقاع الأرض.
رؤية فيديل كاسترو بين مئات المقاتلين الفيتناميين قبل عامين من سقوط سايغون، في سبعينيات القرن الماضي، حيث لم يكن يجرؤ أي رئيس دولة إلى الذهاب إلى فيتنام في حينها للتضامن مع شعبها، ضد التدخّل الأميركي فيها، يعكس جرأة هذا القائد وصدق تضامنه الإنساني مع الشعوب الساعية إلى التحرر من الهيمنة الإمبريالية.
كان فيدل رجلاً استراتيجيًا قل مثيله في التاريخ، عاش من أجل شعبه ومن أجل الثورة وأفكارها، كان جنديًا في الخطوط الأمامية وفعل الكثير لشعبه كما للعديد من شعوب العالم، وبينما ترسل الولايات المتحدة الجنود والأسلحة إلى أي ركن من أركان العالم لتوسيع هيمنتها، أرسل فيدل كاسترو الأطباء والمعلمين إلى من هم في أمس الحاجة إليهم.
في كانون الأول/ ديسمبر من العام 2011، دخل الزعيم الكوبي الراحل كتاب غينيس للأرقام القياسية باعتباره “أكثر شخص في العالم يتعرّض لمحاولات اغتيال”. وتشير التقديرات إلى أنه في الفترة من 1959 إلى 2000، تم تنفيذ 638 محاولة اغتيال فاشلة ضد كاسترو، معظمها بتوجيه من وكالة المخابرات المركزيّة الأميركيّة (CIA)، بدءًا بالسيجار المسمم وصولاً إلى الآيس كريم السام.
وصفه القائد الفنزويلي الراحل، هوغو شافيز، الذي كانت تربطهما صداقة كبيرة، بأنه “قيصر الكرامة والاشتراكيّة” ووصفه بأنهّ “الأب، والرفيق، والبارع في الاستراتيجيّة المثالية”.
غابرييل غارسيا ماركيز، أحد أصدقاء كاسترو، يقول إنّ “فيديل عندما يتحدث إلى الناس في الشارع، يتحدث معهم بكل شفافية هم يخبروه بكل شيء من دون حواجز، يعتبرونه واحدًا منهم. يسمونه: فيدل.. ينادونه باسمه الأول دون لقب، ويضيف “عندما ترى هذه المشهد تدرك أنك أمام انسان استثنائي.. نعم، هذا هو فيدل كاسترو الذي أعرفه”.
نجم كرة القدم الأرجنتيني الراحل، دييغو أرماندو مارادونا، وصف كاسترو بأنه “الأعظم في التاريخ” إذ وضع له وشمًا لكاسترو على جسده. وفي رسالته، اعترف مارادونا ذات يوم: “فيدل، إذا تعلمت شيئًا معك على مدار سنوات من الصداقة الصادقة والجميلة، فهو أنّ الولاء لا يقدر بثمن” بفضل فيديل وثورته الحقيقيّة لنصرة الفقراء والمحتاجين، كوبا خالية من البؤس الذي يسود أميركا اللاتينية، وكذلك في الولايات المتحدة وفي العديد من الأماكن في أوروبا. فلا يوجد طفل واحد في كوبا ينام في الشارع أو يعاني من الجوع أو لا يذهب إلى المدرسة، وبالرغم من كل هذا، ما زال هناك الكثير ممن يصفون فيدل على أنه ديكتاتور ويريدون محي إرثه
