Translator’s Note:  This Japanese monk is a great man.  Many Chinese people in the world today either suffered directly, (or indirectly) at the hands of the Japanese invaders of China (my own family included) which probably began in the early 1930’s, but dates back to the time of the Russo-Japanese war of 1905, where the victorious Japanese took-over relatively small Russian concessions in north-east China.  From this small base, the forces of Japanese imperialism strengthened and spread to the point of a formal declaration of war and a full and official Japanese invasion of China.  Chinese victims of Japanese atrocities and warfare have been estimated as being around 60 million in Chinese language source materials.  Due to the US using Japan as a means to control Communist China, the pro-Western Japanese governments steadfastly refuse to acknowledge or apologise the sheer scale of murder that Japanese forces inflicted.  The Chinese people were eventually rescued by the Soviet Red Army in 1945.  ACW 3.7.2016

On the morning of May 1st, 2006, the 70-year-old Japanese monk named Iwata Ryuzo (岩田隆造 – Yan Tian Long Zao) travelled to Xi’an in China.  The purpose of his visit was to pray for forgiveness for the war crimes committed by the Japanese military against the Chinese people, during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-45).  Although born in the Taiwan area of China in 1936, he and his family did not participate in the war of aggression.  However, despite having no part in the atrocities, he strongly believed that he was obliged (as a Japanese person) to sincerely apologize to the Chinese people alive today, and to pray for forgiveness (and the well-being) of the innumerable Chinese victims of Japanese military aggression
