Dear J
Why hasn’t the US beaten Iran yet? Well, I would say incompetence at the top. The material Advantage the US possesses is so great that it is becoming embarrassing for the US! Yes – destroying (and changing) a regime takes time – as the spirit of the people being targeted must be as broken as their bodies. Not only this, but as US regime change is essentially “terroristic” in nature – the target population must be so enthused with “fear” that they will never attempt to rise-up, confront the US occupation, or attempt to ever return their previous government to power. Even a defeated Iraq (which was invaded by the US in 2003) only became free recently (2026) when Trump was forced to withdraw all US forces due to the rising-up of the Iraqi people. This took 23-years to get rid of the US – although the Iraqi people did rise-up every so often due to US atrocities. Of course, Biden withdrew from Afghanistan in 2020 after nearly 20-years of occupation (the US never militarily won in that country – and even paid the Taliban not to attack them).
Of course, what the US, UK and NATO did to Yugoslavia in the late 1990s was nothing short of a Nazi-esque War Crime and Crime Against Humanity – whilst both Bush and Blair should be in prison and not eating-out in expensive restaurants. As matters stand, and as unpalatable as it might seem, Iran should be defeated and the US should prevail. Even if there is a cease-fire – Iran will be incredibly weakened and ready for the taking at a later date. This is what the amassing of material power by the US has produced when coupled with the unchecked spread of US political power. There is no mystical power hiding in the shadows that will one-day suddenly present itself and magically alter the material reality of the world. No. Only material power changes material power. This is how the Soviet Communist Party built-up the Red Army and was able to counter the material power of the Nazi German regime – despite suffering huge initial set-backs and tremendous losses. Indeed, despite the horrendous losses the Soviets experienced (41 million dead and wounded) – the Red Army was able to defeat Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan – and managed to hold-off an aggressive West in Berlin. It is surprising that Iran has lasted as long as it has – but this an asymmetric war which Iran is winning tactically – but losing strategically.
Perhaps the contradiction is that the Islamic theology that Iran supports does not recognise the relevancy of the material science that has designed and manufactured its missiles. Let’s face it – missiles are all Iran possess that are of any transformative value. Small arms will not prevail when US soldiers land on Iranian soil and deploy their vastly superior fire-power. Iranian bravery will not matter in these circumstances – as material power derived from advanced scientific planning will prevail over a relince upon theology and a science hindered by disbelief and decades of sanctions. Arguably, Saddam Hussein’s army was vastly more powerful than that of Iran – built-up as it was by the Soviets during the 1960s (and the US in the 1980s). The US tried to destroy Socialist Iraq and a left-leaning theological Iran by making them fight one another (1980-1988). This, coupled with sanctions, allowed the Iraqi army to be rolled-over relatively quickly by the US in 2003 – even if the CIA had penetrated its ranks with bribery and promises of awards for not fighting. I think once the US land in Iran – the Iranian missiles will become irrelevant as their armed forces are routed and their bases captured.
