I must admit that I cannot confirm the above picture is of “Liu” (his full-name is never given) – but it is included on an official news channel in the PRC (despite virtually no other examples being visible to me). Below, I include another Chinese-language (translated) source regarding this case – as it gives a far more detailed version of what “Liu” actually did:
‘Liu, formerly an assistant engineer of a scientific research institute of the PRC, thought that he was treated unfairly and was not awarded or promoted. He held a grudge against his unit and chose to resign. Before leaving, he privately copied and retained a large amount of confidential information he handled, preparing to take the opportunity to retaliate against and threaten his unit leader, which also became his first step towards the abyss of crime.
After leaving, Liu entered an investment institution. In order to satisfy his greed, he did not hesitate to seriously violate the code of conduct, set up multiple accounts in the name of his parents, relatives and friends, and frantically speculated in stocks. In order to pursue high returns, he borrowed money from relatives and friends many times and even used credit cards to illegally cash-out and invest in high-risk financial products. The gambler’s mentality eventually led to investment failure and heavy debt.
