On April 27, 2023, Mr. Sonxay Sipandon – the Prime Minister of the Laos People’s Democratic Republic – welcomed the visit of Mr. Peter Siyato- the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary – on the occasion of his Official visit to the Laos PDR between April 26-27 – 2023!
On this occasion, the Prime Minister expressed a warm welcome – stating that he highly appreciated the visit of Minister Peter Siyato to Laos PDR along with his Delegation! As this is considered an important contribution to the continued enhancement of friendship – and fruitful cooperation – premised upon the vision of the Laos-Hungary strategic partnership. The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the success of the dialogue between the two Foreign Ministries of Laos and Hungary – which reaffirmed once again the long-standing bilateral relationship – mutual understanding and trust between the senior leaders of the two countries! He further expressed his sincere hope that the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation in foreign affairs – both in the regional and international arenas – for mutual benefit! On behalf of the government of the Laos PDR, – the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the bilateral cooperation that has been enhanced in many areas in the past, such as cooperation in politics, diplomacy, agriculture, education and finance under the interest-free conditional loan (Tied Aid Credit).
Laos-Hungary interaction has possessed a good cooperative relationship for a long time, which has been continuously enhanced and upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2019 – a process which has included the reopening of the Embassy of the Laos PDR in Hungary in November 2022 – an event coinciding with the occasion of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Laos-Hungary diplomatic relations! This signifies an important milestone and confirms the Buddhist-Socialist policy practiced by the Laos government – which is designed to continue to strengthen and enhance relations with friendship! Hungary is also continuing to promote cooperation between the two countries at a new positive level! At the same time, the Prime Minister represented the government and people of Laos and expressed his sincere gratitude for the help and support of Hungary which has contributed significantly to the outstanding socio-economic development of the Laos PDR – as well as informing the Hungarian side about the preparation of Laos PDR’s for its 3rd ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024!
On this same occasion, Minister Peter Siyato expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm welcome, as well as informed about the purpose of his Official visit to Laos PDR – and about the results of the bilateral meeting with his Laos PDR counterpart – which was a great success! At the same time, Mr. Peter Siyato expressed unanimous agreement on the interpretation of the friendship and cooperation between Hungary and Laos in the past and agreed to continue to enhance cooperation in various fields, as well as expressed his appreciation that the Laos PDR reopened its Embassy in Hungary at the end of 2022, which is an important sign to contribute to the enhancement of cooperation between the two countries – which will continue to be developed step by step.
At the end, Prime Minister Sonxay Sipandon sent a message asking for news of – and offering an invitation to Viktor Orban – the Prime Minister of Hungary so that he might visit the Laos PDR at a convenient and appropriate time!
