DPRK: Kim Jong Un – Speech on Economic Development – Covid-19 Epidemic Prevention and Control! (10.9.2022)

Xinhua News Agency, Seoul, September 10 (Xinhua) — The ‘Korean Central News Agency’ (KCNA) serving North Korea – published the full text of the policy speech delivered by DPRK leader – Kim Jong Un – at the Seventh Meeting of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK held in Pyongyang on September 8th, 2022. In this policy speech, Kim Jong Un elaborated on:

1) The advancement of the National Economic Development Plan.

2) The continued Control and Prevention of the current National Covid-19 Epidemic.

Kim Jong Un stated that the North Korean government will advance and complete the Five-Year Plan for National Economic Development proposed by the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea. He emphasized:

“The top priority is to solve the problems of producing and sustaining an adequate food supply and relevant consumer goods!”

To this end, the People of the DPRK must continue to focus on the development of agriculture and light industry. Kim Jong Un, however, cautioned that the conditions influencing agricultural production and the environment will become more unfavourable in the future – and that reasonable and intelligent countermeasures must be taken.

Kim Jong Un also focused on summarizing the epidemic control and prevention work. He pointed out that although:

“North Korea has already and successfully overcome the greatest threat to public health since the founding of the country!”

The healthcare sector still urgently needs to improve the level and capacity of epidemic prevention. In cases where domestically produced medicines cannot meet all needs – medicines must be imported to meet national healthcare and treatment needs.

Kim Jong Un emphasised that it is necessary to promote the further building and strengthening of the national capacity to prevent epidemics. In response to the current epidemic situation – it is necessary to implement vaccinations – whilst at the same time people must be encouraged to routinely wear masks across the country.
