(ECNS) — China’s Wu Qing won gold in the women’s F33 shot put at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games in Japan on Tuesday, breaking the Games record with a throw of 7.63 metres.
The 36-year-old, from Qiqihar in northeastern China’s Heilongjiang province, has won four Paralympic gold medals and set five world records.
She began training with the Heilongjiang Disabled Persons’ Federation in 2005 and switched from standing to seated throwing in 2023.
During the preparation period for this Nagoya Asian Para Games, Wu Qing maintained a highly disciplined training state, insisting on intensive specialized training and completing hundreds or even thousands of throwing exercises. The Heilongjiang Disabled Persons’ Federation provided comprehensive support, with a professional coaching and rehabilitation team following up throughout, precisely adjusting technical movements and scientifically regulating her physical condition, laying a solid foundation for her to compete in international competitions.
After the match, Wu Qing said, “This honour belongs to the motherland and to Heilongjiang.” We thank the country for its training, the Heilongjiang Disabled Persons’ Federation for its careful support over the years, and the coaching team for their dedicated training. It is this black soil that nourishes me, allowing me to overcome injuries and break through myself time and again. In the future, I will continue to hold fast on the court, give my all, embody passion through hard work, and win more honors for my country.
Wu credited her success to the support of her country, the provincial federation and her coaching team. She said she would keep competing and strive for more honours.
