This article has caused a heated debate in China. Although the original title states these are “Chinese” soldiers fighting for Nazi Germany – many ethnic Chinese people point-out they do not look “Chinese” – but rather “Central Asian”, “Korean” (Korea was a colony of Imperial Japan and Koreans fought in the Imperial Japanese Army), “Tibetan” (Hitler was fascinated by Tibet and had close ties with the 14th Dalai Lama) or even “Mongolian” (The People’s Army of Mongolia fought alongside the Soviet Red Army during the liberation of China in late 1945). Taiwan was also a colony of Imperial Japanese and some brain-washed “Taiwanese” (Chinese) also joined the Imperial Japanese Army Units. Both these fascist Japanese Units saw action in Mainland China – committing atrocities as they went. It could well be that these are “propaganda” photographs concocted by the Nazis to undermine Soviet morale and play-down allegations of “racism”.

Post-1945 – the US reformed these Japanese-Korean Units to make the Army of South Korea – a military force of unpunished War Criminals. A further complication arises from the fact that the Chinese Nationalists, prior to 1941 (the year they declared war on Nazi Germany) – often imported Nazi German uniforms and equipment – giving some of their soldiers a similar look to these pictures (see below). However, the Chinese-language text suggests that these men were captured fighting for the Soviet Far East Red Army – but no details are given. The article does say that when liberated by US troops – these men were repatriated – as it was understood they were “forced” to wear Nazi uniforms. Comments below this article are generally indignant – stating that no right-thinking Chinese person would fight for Nazism.
