I was not sure if the below story was true when I first read about it – so I sought-out Chinese-language sources to prove it actually happened. Yes – it actually happened. When I was young, I read in a Western book about China that a Japanese delegation to China (I think in the 1960s – but this needs checking) also left their Chinese gifts at the airport – stating they were of an embarrassingly low quality. I think this also happened at a time in China’s early Socialist development – but the Japanese economy only boomed after WWII because the US invested billions of dollars in it. The US also gave the Japanese free healthcare – and institution still operating today. We were taught the lie at school that a right-wing, capitalist Japan had performed an economic miracle – when all it was that the US had given their former enemy loads of money. Just a few minutes before the boarding-stairs was set-up outside the aeroplane-hatch, a set of images exposed by New York Post reporter Gooding (published on his X account) quickly detonated a discussion across the internet. The US Secret Service staff collected all the items issued by the Chinese side from the members of the US delegation (one by one) – this included certificates, delegation badges, brooches, and even disposable phones issued by the White House – and threw them all into the rubbish-bin situated at the foot of the boarding ladder. Gooding’s original text reads: “It is forbidden to carry any items from China on the plane. We are about to take off for the United States. ” The key to the impact of this incident is not whether it is “right” or wrong, but rather the context in which it occurred. The Chinese side had just completed the send-off ceremony at the airport, designed to grant the highest form of “face” to the US. This involved a 21-Gun Salute, Honour Guards of the Three Services, a Red Carpet, State Banquets, and visits to the Temple of the Divine-Sky. A few minutes after this display of Chinese respect for America, the same group of people (the Americans) stood in front of the boarding-ladder and threw everything given by Chinese-side into the rubbish-bin (one by one). This cruel act of disrespect was performed in-front of the general public and designed to attract the maximum Press coverage – sending a clear message of US disrespect for China.

2026年5月15日下午，北京首都机场的停机坪上，美国总统特朗普刚登上“空军一号”专机，结束了为期三天的对华国事访问。而就在登机梯还架在舱门外的几分钟前，一组被《纽约邮报》随团记者古丁在X平台曝光的画面，迅速引爆了全网讨论：美国特勤局工作人员逐个收走了代表团成员手中所有中方发放的物品——证件、代表团徽章、胸针，甚至连白宫配发的一次性手机——全部扔进了登机梯底部的垃圾桶里。古丁的原文写道：“飞机上禁止携带任何来自中国的物品。我们即将起飞前往美国。”
