Blogger’s Note: Laos was the most bombed place on earth during the Vietnam War (1960-1975) – as US Bombers continued to illegally blanket-bomb this country and nearby Kampuchea in an effort to prevent food, medical supplies, and weaponry arriving from China and the USSR – travelling on bicycles with no tyres whilst being wheeled down the Ho Chi Minh Trail! Laos is a Socialist-Buddhist country advocating Marxist-Leninist-Maoism. It upholds the Theravada School of Buddhism – which I studied in Sri Lanka (during late 1996). Laotian monastic and lay Buddhism is pure and strong – and I say this as somebody who was a monk in the Chinese Ch’an tradition in Hong Kong. If there is a model of purity and longevity – the Laotian people are it. I am glad that Laos is now developing very good political relations with other Socialist countries in the world – even those with very different models. North Korea also possesses its own Buddhist tradition – which shows that Buddhism is not a religion – but rather a philosophy compatible with Socialism. ACW (15.11.2025)

Pyongyang, November 12 (KCNA) — Thongsavanh Phomvihane, foreign minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and his party arrived here on Nov. 11 to visit the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea at the invitation of the DPRK Foreign Ministry.

They were greeted at Pyongyang International Airport by officials of the DPRK Foreign Ministry, the Lao ambassador to the DPRK and members of his embassy. (End)

Pyongyang, November 13 (KCNA) — Talks between Choe Son Hui, foreign minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and Thongsavanh Phomvihane, foreign minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, were held at the Mansudae Assembly Hall here on Nov. 12.

Present at the talks from the DPRK side were Pak Sang Gil, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and other officials of the Foreign Ministry and from the Lao side were the foreign minister and his party.

The talks exchanged views on the issues of further strengthening the traditional friendly relations between the DPRK and Laos and promoting mutual support and cooperation in the international arena by thoroughly implementing the agreements reached by the top leaders of the two countries last October, and reached a consensus of views on them. Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) — Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, sent a flower basket to Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and president of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

The DPRK ambassador to the LPDR courteously handed over the flower basket bearing the august name of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un to the chairman of the Committee for External Affairs of the Central Committee of the LPRP, on November 6.

Written on the ribbon of the flower basket were the letters reading “I wish Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and president of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, good health”. (End)
