This taught ne a lesson about bia and presumption on the left – I mean – we all love Che Guevara, but very few of us give Latin American Socialism the respect it deserves, I certainly did not, but I do now. My meeting with this Spanish man taught me this. He said he did not really understand the Soviet or Chinese positions – as they did not speak to his material reality. Isn’t this just a brilliant observation?
I added Spanish to my portfolio of written languages that I now translate into British-English – because of this dialectically altering interaction. He explained to me that he only understood Socialist concepts written in the Spanish language – and that he only related to the Southern, Central, and North Latin American Socialist tradition – and that taught me. Considering how stubborn we all are on the left with our attachments to our preferred positions – I could not begrudge this man his reality. Long story short – a crime is being committed against Socialist Cuba by the US – and the US military is currently encircling and threatening the people of Socialist Venezuela! Our Venezuelan flag arrived yesterday and as a family (it is Kai-Lin’s 9th birthday today) we will soon take a photograph with it. We must be careful on the left of entrenched positions.
