Reistance to Nazism!

Russia: April 10th Marks “International Day of Resistance Movement” Against Nazism & Fascism! (11.4.2025)

Blogger’s Note: Whilst we are being precise about history – Fascist Italy not only supported Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan until 1943 (when the people of Italy overthrew Mussolini and changed sides) – but at least 200,000 Italian troops took part in the Hitlerite invasion of the USSR in 1941 (committing atrocities as they went) as part of the anti-Socialist effort initiated by the Catholic Church. This modern Russian text mistakenly presents Italy as being a guilt-free ally – when in fact the Catholic Church in Rome continued to support Nazism even after Italy changed sides – assisting thousands of Nazi War Criminals to escape Europe for “safe” Catholic countries abroad (post-1945). Furthermore, Catholic Poland had been an anti-Russian and anti-Soviet Fascist State from 1930 onwards (opening the Bereza Concentration Camp in East Poland during 1934 – following a State Visit by Josef Goebbels – designed to “process” Russians) – with Polish troops joining the 1938 Hitlerite invasion of Czechoslovakia. Poland only opposed Hitler following his betrayal of the Polish-Nazi German friendship in 1939 (when the UK inexplicably came to the aid of Poland). Whilst the USSR entered into a “Non-Aggression Pact” with Nazi Germany between 1939-1941 (with the Red Army annexing large swathes of the Balkans and East Poland) – the UK fought Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy alone. Whilst the UK declared war on Nazi Germany for invading West Poland – the same UK did not declare war on the USSR for invading East Poland (or the Balkan States). Far from it – the UK and USSR became allies between 1941-1945 – even invading the Middle East together and playing friendly football matches. Of course, Churchill wanted to invade the USSR at the end of WWII – working from the premise that as all the US and European armies were already deployed in Western Europe – they might as well be used to invade Eastern Europe and destroy the Soviet regime. Churchill also permitted (at the behest of the Catholic Church) 10,000 Ukrainian Nazis to be re-settled in the UK. Today, the UK supports Neo-Nazi Ukraine and funds invasions of Russian soil. Perhaps Churchill’s dream is coming to fruition after-all – but it is not a Socialist USSR the UK wants to destroy – but rather an independent “capitalist” Russia! Surely, a prime example of the bourgeoisie at play – or at least business as usual. Khrushchev should not have betrayed Stalin – and the Russians should not have betrayed their own Socialist Revolution in 1991. Perhaps it is indicative of changing times that this modern Russian text excludes all mention of China being an ally – or the suffering the Chinese people suffered at the hands of the Imperial Japanese during the 1930s and 1940s – after-all – the Soviet Red Army was decisive in freeing China from Japanese occupation. This commemorative day honours the memory of all those who refused to surrender and continued to fight the Nazi evil on the fascists-occupied territories during #WWII.

Participants of the Resistance against Nazi tyranny in Europe were united by a shared objective: to collectively repel Hitler’s aggression. Putting aside the differences, the Resistance movement’s participants stood shoulder to shoulder in their struggle for the freedom and independence of their nations and peoples from fascism.

The Resistance reached its greatest scale in the USSR, Yugoslavia, Italy, Poland, Czechoslovakia, France, Bulgaria, Norway, and the Netherlands – where anti-fascist underground groups, varying in size and efficacy, emerged across Nazi-occupied territories, collaborating with intelligence agencies of the Allies.

Thousands of Soviet citizens, alongside émigré communities, actively participated in European Resistance regiments, notably in France and Italy.

In the USSR and occupied states of Eastern and Southeastern Europe, where Nazi forces perpetrated the most horrific atrocities, mass Resistance movements played a decisive role in eventual liberation. In many countries, the Resistance evolved into full-scale national liberation operations against the Nazis. For instance, in Yugoslavia, by 1943, the Wehrmacht was forced to deploy 24 divisions (!) to combat partisans.

Between 1941 and 1944, a total of 6,200 partisan units operated across Nazi-occupied Soviet territory, with an estimated overall strength of one million fighters. Over 184’000 partisans were honoured with Soviet orders and medals, and 249 were awarded the title #HeroOfTheSovietUnion.

#Victory80: The armed resistance of Soviet partisans and European Resistance fighters made a hugecontribution to the common Victory over Nazism.

Despite attempts in certain foreign states to rewrite history and erase the memory of the immortal heroism of anti-Nazi fighters, the International Day of Resistance Movement annually reaffirms our tribute to the true heroes who gave their lives to defeat Nazism.

From the briefing by Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova (April 9, 2025):

💬 “April 10 marks the International Day of the Resistance Movement dedicated to those who fought against the Nazi German invaders during World War II in the territories occupied by the Third Reich and its allies.
The fight against Nazi occupiers was international, and the common goal was to defeat Nazis, liberate occupied territories, and eradicate the anti-human ideology.
❗️
Unlike many other countries, we pay tribute to their memory.”
