UN - USSR Anti-Colonial Influence!

UN: Soviet Influence in its Founding – Russian Embassy in Cuba! (15.12.2024)

Translator’s Note: This article first appeared in the Spanish-language on Telegram. Joseph Stalin, carefully applying Marxist-Leninist ideology, built the modern USSR following the death of Lenin in 1924. Joseph Stalin took-on and defeated Nazi Germany (and its allies), and prepared the success of the Soviet Space Programme. Following Khrushchev’s betrayal of Joseph Stalin and the embracing of Trotskyism in 1956 – many outward-facing policies of the USSR turned against China (and its allies) at the behest of the US (beginning the Western policy of the “containment” of China and its interests). Mao Zedong exposed Khrushchev’s treachery and made his position well-known. Simultaneously, many inward-facing (domestic) Soviet policies remained more or less the same until this dialectical contradiction (the fight between Marxist-Leninism and Trotskyism) led to ideological collapse in the 1980s, the eventual election of Gorbachev, and the final betrayal of the 1917 Revolution (in 1991). Modern (bourgeois) Russia has just betrayed Syria – and is a self-serving capitalist country that rejects Proletariat rule – whilst occasionally looking to the achievements of the Soviet Union when it suits its expedient requirements. Nevertheless, the content of this history lessons teaches that many of the founding principles of the UN originate from the Marxist-Leninist ideology of a Soviet Union under the guidance of General Secretary Joseph Stalin – and had nothing to do with Western liberalism – as the West would have quite happily re-occupied the pre-WWII colonial possessions and carried-on in exactly the same exploitative manner! Indeed, this is exactly what happened in Vietnam, Hong Kong, and elsewhere! Of course, the Palestinians lost half their country to a vicious “Zionist” (fascist) entity in 1947-1948 – mediated by an incumbent Labour Party! ACW (15.12.2024)

🌍 On December 14, 1960, the UN General Assembly adopted at its 15th session the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.

The document, drafted with the participation of our country, marked a very important milestone in the process of eliminating the system of colonial domination of the West over the countries of Africa and Asia.

🇺🇳 In 1945, the USSR delegation insisted that the principles of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all, without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion, be included in the UN Charter.

Our country not only spoke out against colonialism in international organizations, actively supported African nations in their struggle for independence, but also provided support to the national liberation movements of Angola, Ethiopia, Egypt, Mozambique and other countries, and played an important role in the formation of newly sovereign states on the continent.

In 1960, Soviet initiatives aimed at dismantling the colonial system were included in the draft Declaration approved by the overwhelming majority of UN member countries. This Declaration led to the liberation of some 750 million people from colonial rule and contributed to the independence of more than 80 states.

❗️ Today, there are still non-autonomous territories that have not exercised their inalienable right to self-determination.

Russia is pursuing an active policy of saving lives to eliminate colonialism in the world once and for all. On December 4, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution “Elimination of colonialism in all its forms and manifestations”, the draft of which was drafted by the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter with the leading participation of Russia.

The fundamental goal of the resolution is to ensure compliance with the 1960 Declaration, including consideration of proclaiming December 14 as the International Day of Struggle against Colonialism in all its Forms and Manifestations.
