toilet warning city road

London: City Road [EC1V 2NR] – Shoreditch Side-Street “Not a Toilet”! (5.11.2024)

After being in the vicinity of Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road – Shoreditch – East Central London), we had just visited a new Chinese Supermarket [Fu Lai], we stumbled upon a very strange side-street which cannot be fenced-off because it is publicly accessible. We had seen this place years ago – but we did not record it at the time. Apparently, the sign on either side of this narrow in-dent states that the area is NOT a “Public Toilet”! How odd! This is a posh place full of new high-rise (and incredibly expensive) flats strictly for the elite. As there are no public houses of clubs – it is difficult to understand just why it is that the local population would use this side-street as a toilet. It seems to me that this might be a fake landmark designed tp attract bemused tourists and incredulous locals. Perhaps an urban myth.

Aftermath and Losses: As myself and Gee were moving away from this side-street (situated between 124 and 122 City Road) a Nigerian gentleman (whom I assume was previously seated in a large White Van across the other side of the street) watching for people using this area as a toilet – alighted his vehicle and targeted Gee. This gentleman was around 5′ 8″ tall around 55-60 years old. He wore a grey baseball cap and a grey (casual) sweater and blue-jeans – unprofessional through and through. He possessed no ID and was not in uniform. He seemed genuinely surprised when he realised that I was with Gee – and was shaken by my presence. He said he was in-charge of security for the side-street (?) and asked what “I” was doing stood in the area? He had quickly given-up targeting Gee after she laughed at him and walked dismissively away – saying she could not understand his accent (he then identified himself as “Nigerian” – as if that would frighten us into subordination). I stated I did not consent to this conversation and advised him to be quiet and walk away.

He followed us for about 20 feet down the packed street and at one-point “filmed” me with his mobile ‘phone – which I thought was funny. Do not give in to tyranny and always assert your freedom – after-all – these freedoms have been hard earned. I can think of nothing more perverse than Black people voluntarily working for the White Bourgeois System. Chinese people are often targeted nowadays by some Black people due to the anti-China racism generated in the US – and I suspect Gee was going to be oppressed by this individual. Still, exercising a righteous authority is exactly what I did. There on some people on the internet selling photographs of this side-street for around £30 a shot – so please use the above photographs free of charge and spread them far and wide! After-all, all these places belong to you – the British people!
