LNR Communists Celebrate the Red Army Liberation of Voroshilovgrad from Nazi Germans (2016)

(Translated by Adrian Chan-Wyles PhD)

On Sunday, February 14th, a solemn meeting of the Union of Communists of Lugansk region was held on the occasion of the liberation of Lugansk from the Nazi invaders. This vitally important event occurred at 10am on February 14th, 1943 following very bloody and costly military engagements between the Hitlerite Forces and those of the Red Army. These battles took the lives of at least 10,000 Soviet soldiers! As the Hitlerite Forces were being driven back, the Nazi German Authorities of the area (including fascist police) were particularly brutal to the local inhabitants – murdering at least 10,000 civilians (men, women and children) in anti-Soviet pogroms.

According to those present today, this date is particularly poignant for the people of Lugansk, as with many cities in the Donbass region (of Eastern Ukraine), we have been attacked by a new round of the fascist plague that has swept through the former allied Ukraine.

A report at the meeting was made by the Secretary of the Youth Organization – Andrei Shirshov – who noted:

The communists of the Lugansk region have worthily accepted the Red Banner of the fight against fascism from the hands of their heroic predecessors! On the frontline of the struggle against Ukrainian fascism, many of our Comrades are fighting, many on the labour and information front also make vital contributions to this anti-fascist war. The Fraternal and Comradely Solidarity of our Comrades from the Communist Party, headed by Gennady Zyuganov, deserve a special mention! Many thanks to the Deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation: First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Affairs Committee, First Deputy Chairman of the UPC-CPSU Council, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation – Kazbek Kutsukovich Taysaev and Secretary of the Moscow City Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation – Vladimir Rodin. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation is the only Party of the Russian Federation which openly supports the recognition of People’s Republics of Lugansk and Donetsk. Thanks largely to the support of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, we managed to stop the spread of the fascist plague, not to give our wives and mothers to Bandera, to defend not only the glorious Soviet past, but also the right to the future, because in that future where Ukrainian fascism wins, you and I nolonger exist! Today’s parallel with the past is a reminder that only Socialism is able to eradicate such features of capitalism such as war, poverty, and enmity between nations!’

The following persons also addressed the audience: 2nd Secretary of the SCL Central Committee -Valentin Popov, 3rd Secretary of the SCL Central Committee – Oleg Popov, 1st Secretary of the Kamennobrodsky District SCL committee – Igor Nekipelov, former 1st Secretary of the Lugansk Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Ukraine – Vladimir Zemlyakov and other Comrades.

In closing remarks, the first Secretary of the SCL Central Committee – Igor Gumenyuk, said:

‘… today, we are not only honouring the winners, but also announcing the start of preparations for the celebration of the 71st Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. We need to summarize the entire experience of advanced patriotic actions and prepare a serious anti-fascist campaign.’

The participants of this solemn meeting laid flowers at the foot of the monument to the Communist Leader of this of Great Victory – Joseph Stalin. Meanwhile, activists of the Heritage Youth Military-Patriotic Organization visited Veterans of the Great Patriotic War and handed them targeted food packages from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
