We had been looking forward to seeing this excellent exhibition since last year, but had been unable to attend any of the venues (including Oxford), due to travel and work commitments. For us the power of Lenin is not just an event of the past, but also a highly poignant and powerful event of the present and unfolding future! As members of a number of Communist and progressive organisations and movements, we do not look back with nostalgia, but in Revolutionary awe! If we look back it is to understand the unfolding of history and the inner workings of Scientific Socialism as expressed through the 1917 October Revolution and all the vital parts that each individual played. The will-power of millions of workers, soldiers and intellectuals converged for a number of years upon the personage of VI Lenin who consequently became a spokesperson for the Revolutionary Consciousness of humanity! The reactionary forces of capitalism may momentarily gloat at the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, but Communists and Communism must learn from this setback (predicted by Marx) and adapt anew to prevailing circumstances! The bourgeoisie fears and admires Lenin in equal measure, but for the proletariat Lenin still strides magnificently across the globe empowering every ordinary man, woman and child as they look upon his likeness with a bare, naked hope… They know that the Red Flag will fly again!
