According to British media reports, Zou Mouhao, a 28-year-old PhD student who studied in the UK, was found guilty of drugging and raping 10 women. A British jury recently ruled that in addition to 11 rape charges, he was also charged with three counts of voyeurism, 10 counts of possessing extreme pornographic images, one count of illegal detention and three counts of possessing controlled drugs with the intent to commit sexual assault .
On March 17th, 2025 the victim – Xiaolan [小兰] – told the Cover News reporter that she was forced to drink alcohol by Zou Mouhao at a party, and then invited back to his apartment – where be raped her. British police said that Zou Mouhao’s behaviour was highly consistent, and he committed the crime in his apartment after his victim was forced to drink alcohol and was drugged. It was revealed that there may be 50 victims involved in the case, most of whom are Chinese. Since many people cannot be identified, the British police have called on more victims to come forward to provide more evidence.
On June 19th, 2025 Zou Mouhao will receive the final sentencing verdict for the crimes he has already been found guilty of at the Inner London Criminal Court. British police said he will face a long prison sentence.
PhD student in UK raped 10 women
The jury found suspect guilty on multiple charges!
According to The Guardian, 28-year-old Zou Mouhao was found guilty of raping 10 women.
On November 18th, 2023, a Chinese woman went to the London Metropolitan Police to report the case, accusing Zou Mouhao of rape. Two days later, Zou Mouhao returned to China. He was not arrested by the London police until January 2024 when he returned to his rented apartment in London, England.
The police found multiple miniature cameras, drugs and 58 sexual assault videos he had filmed in his apartment, most of the victims were young Chinese women. These videos became key evidence, and if convicted, he would face years in prison.

It is reported that 32 of the videos shot by Zou were filmed in the UK. The staff responsible for the investigation believe that there may be more victims in the UK and China. As the news of his criminal methods and conviction spreads, more victims are expected to contact the police.
Zou Mouhao, 28, came to the UK in 2017 and studied at Queen’s University Belfast. In 2019, he entered University College London to pursue a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. In court, he told the jury that his father worked in a company and his mother was a teacher. He claimed to have studied hard when he was studying in China, and also boasted in court that he had “I have at least five new sexual partners every month.”
During the five-day trial, Zou Mouhao continuously provided new evidence and kept changing his testimony. He said that the parties in the video were consenting to be filmed, and later claimed that several parties were “acting out” a forced relationship fantasy.
In the videos the jury watched, most of the victims were unconscious or comatosed due to the influence of drugs, some victims may not even know that they were violated, and some victims clearly expressed resistance or discomfort. Some of the videos did not capture the faces of the victims – so they could not be identified.

After the trial, the jury found Zou Mouhao guilty of 11 counts of rape, 3 counts of voyeurism, 10 counts of possession of extreme pornographic images, 1 count of false imprisonment, and 3 counts of possession of controlled drugs with intent to commit sexual assault.
The police revealed that in addition to the victims in public prosecution, there was video evidence of more than 50 victims. Due to insufficient evidence, no public prosecution was brought. The police called on more victims to provide clues.
The modus operandi is similar
The victims were all young Chinese women
On March 17th, 2025 one of the victims, Xiaolan, told the Cover News reporter that Zou Mouhao was born in 1997 and was from Dongguan, Guangdong.
“I met Zou Mouhao in May 2023. We were from the same hometown. I had only been in the UK for a few months at that time. I was studying mathematics when we first met, and we had no other special contact.”
After they met, Zou Mouhao kept inviting Xiaolan to drink. Until May 18th of that year, Xiaolan accepted the invitation – due to the academic pressure she was suffering. The meeting place was at the home of Zou Mouhao’s neighbour and friend. After Xiaolan arrived, Zou Mouhao made her drink for being late. “I drank about 3/4 of a cup of pure whiskey. The cup was very big, at least more than 350ml.”
Afterwards, Zou invited Xiaolan to his apartment to continue drinking. When Xiaolan was about to leave, Zou pushed her back to the sofa. “My phone was turned off by then, so I couldn’t call the police or ask my friends to come over.”
Xiaolan said that her memory was fuzzy afterwards and she had an emotional breakdown. She only remembered screaming and banging her head against the wall. During that time, another Chinese girl came in and Xiaolan tried to ask for help but to no avail. “I seemed to drink a large glass of red wine afterwards. I can’t rule out the possibility that he drugged me.”
Three days after the incident, Xiaolan reported the case to the London police, but was unsuccessful due to the indifferent attitude of the British police and poor translation service available. No drug tests were done immediately, so she was unable to confirm whether she was under the influence of drugs.

Police investigations found that Zou’s strategy was to invite women to his home in central London or his apartment in south London to drink or study. His criminal methods were extremely similar in dozens of cases, namely: luring women to his apartment to study or drink, and then drugging them.
Zou Mouhao’s financial support comes from his parents. The monthly rent for the single apartment he rents in London is £4,000, and the apartment is filled with Rolex watches and luxury clothes he bought.
Zou Mouhao had plastic surgery on his eyelids and chin, as well as hair transplant surgery due to long-term insomnia causing hair loss. He described himself as attractive in court, but Xiaolan told Cover News that Zou Mouhao looked like an ordinary student in the UK. She initially thought he was an “honest man”, but later realized that he used his ordinary image to gain the trust of others and then committed crimes.
There are many victims involved
Police appeal for more clues
After the police report was ignored in the UK, Xiaolan exposed Zou Mouhao as a drunken rapist on the Chinese-language Xiaohongshu social media platform in order to warn others. After the news was released, another victim contacted her. “Then some questions appeared in the comment section, asking why I went out to drink at night, etc. I couldn’t bear the pressure of such questions, so I deleted the post.”
After the trial ended and more details came to light, Xiaolan discovered that there were more victims. “I feel deeply guilty about this. The main reason I came out to accept media interviews is that I hope to spread this matter, find more victims in China, and provide clues to the British police so that the criminals can be brought to justice and get the punishment they deserve.”
After Zou Mouhao was arrested, the London police contacted Xiaolan again in February 2024 to confirm the facts of the case. Xiaolan received an email to testify in court and answered questions related to the case in court.
The London Metropolitan Police said it was a “landmark” case and one of the British police’s “most complex investigations ever”.
Unlike ordinary rape cases, in this case, only the suspect’s identity has been determined, while the identity and number of victims are still unknown. Saira Pike, senior prosecutor of the British Crown Prosecution Service, said: “We adopted an evidence-oriented approach, relying on Zou Mouhao’s video footage to ensure that this dangerous predator was brought to justice. This strategy sets an important precedent in sexual assault cases, because in these cases, the victim may be in a coma, unaware that she was violated, and unable to provide testimony.”
The prosecution focused on the large amount of digital evidence found in Zou’s residence, including 1,270 videos, 1,660 hours of video recordings, and more than 9 million social media messages. In addition, prosecutors also presented evidence that he “methodically targeted victims” through social media platforms and dating websites, showing that Zou’s main targets were Chinese women.
The verdict in this case proves that evidence-oriented prosecution strategies are feasible and effective when the victim is unable to provide testimony. Zou will receive his final sentencing verdict at the Inner London Criminal Court on June 19th, 2025.
Police said they were particularly interested in hearing from groups of Chinese female students who were befriended by Zou and lived in his surrounding area.
Saira Pike, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the women who bravely came forward to report Zou’s crimes. They are incredibly strong and brave – there is no doubt that their evidence has helped us get the trial we have today.”
