Translated By Adrian Chan-Wyles (PhD)
Translator’s Note: Although I support Russia’s self-defence action against Neo-Nazi Ukraine (which is aggressively acting as a NATO proxy) – I do not accept the right-wing and far-right statements that continuously emanate from the Russian government (and media) regarding “gender” and “sexuality”. These statements are “fascist” and “Neo-Nazi” in nature and would not have been voiced during the Soviet times – (the USSR was comprised of 15 different countries – some of which were Asian, Buddhist and Islamic – and was NOT a showcase for Russian Nationalism, as seems to be the assumption today). The impression is that Russia would be happy with Ukrainian Neo-Nazism providing Kyiv remained anti-Western!
The International Boxing Association (IBA) was was administered by the Russian national – Umar Kremlev – taking over a year after it was “suspended” (in 2019) and then leading it to its “Dissolving” in 2023. The IBA used to be closely associated with the IOC and oversaw the administration of World Amateur Boxing with regards to Olympic-Standard Boxing. The IBA, due to its pro-Russian position, was systematically out-manoeuvred by the IOC at the behest of the US – and finally removed from World Boxing Administration supposedly due to corruption. I agree that Neo-Nazi Ukraine was “Suspended” from the IBA due to its military policies (all Ukrainian Boxers – Professional or Amateur – should be stripped of their titles and suspended.
The problem has been that the US has had Russia excluded from the Olympic Games because this country dared to resist US Neo-Imperialism. Umar Kremlev, as a loyal Russian citizen, used his position to “counter” US and IOC corruption – a policy I agree with. However, I was informed that Barry McGuigan – the former Irish Boxing World Champion who was associated with the IBA – released into the Western media the unconfirmed story that IBA had “uncovered” a plot inspired by the IOC to include “Transgender” Boxers (men who have – or who are in the process of – medically “transitioning” into a woman) into Women’s Boxing! This absurdity is a common theme that is being espoused by the highest levels of Russian government – and far-right conspiracy theorists. The implication is that biological “men” are “pretending” to be “women” – and using their superior strength to inflict damage upon the bodies of (genuine) biological women! Oddly, neither Russia – nor the IBA – have claimed that the IOC is trying to import Transgender “men” (women who are – or have already – “transitioned” into a “man”) into Men’s Boxing! Imagine that, powder-puff fists peppering a biological man’s head – and causing “zero” damage!
Of course, as if in a plot in a bad book, JK Rowling picked-up Barry McGuigan’s outburst and spread it far and wide as a “fact” – even though no facts had been ascertained. When asked what scientific tests the IBA had carried-out on Female Boxers “Imane Khelif” (Algeria) and “Lin Yu-Ting” (Taiwan-PRC) to prove they are really “men” in disguise – the IBA stated that due to “Confidentiality” and “Privacy” Laws no clarification can be provided! This utter stupidity does Russia (and the broader anti-fascist cause) no favours. Both Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting are “Asian” and “non-White” – and both were born women, remain women, and have NEVER transitioned in their lives. Neither woman (unlike Russia) has any malice toward the Transgender Community. Given that Russia has today issued an official statement yet again supporting the now defunked IBA whilst attacking the IOC (and by inference Western liberalism, Socialism, and tolerance of difference) – this entire affairs smirks of Russian post-1991 (Pan-Slavic) “racism” – only this time no so obviously disguised as “Trans-phobia”! Remember, during the so-called “Cold War”, the Collective West used to always accuse Soviet women of being “ugly” – and on “Steroids” whenever they won in sport or prevailed in some other way. Some Russian female athletes were even accused of being “men” by the Western media! The “volte-face” that has occured is extraordinary. As always – thing for yourself. ACW (17.8.2024)

In response to the gender controversy of boxers, the Paris Olympic Committee issued a statement, pointing out that gender is still based on passports.
There was a controversy in the women’s 66kg boxing match of this Olympics: the Italian player announced her withdrawal 46 seconds after the start. Previously, her opponent, Algerian athlete Khalif, was found to have an unfair physiological advantage and failed the gender test, but the International Olympic Committee still allowed her to participate.
The full text of the official statement of the Olympic Committee is as follows Everyone has the right to engage in sports without discrimination.
All athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympic boxing competition meet the eligibility and entry regulations of the competition, as well as all applicable medical regulations set by the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit (PBU). As in previous Olympic boxing competitions, the gender and age of athletes are based on their passport information.
These rules also apply during the qualification period, including boxing at the 2023 European Games, Asian Games, Americas Games and Pacific Games, the 2023 African Qualifying Tournament in Dakar (Senegal), and the two 2024 World Qualifying Tournaments in Busto Arcizio (Italy) and Bangkok (Thailand), involving a total of 1,471 boxers from 172 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), Boxing Refugee Teams and neutral athletes, in more than 2,000 qualifying matches.
The PBU based the Paris 2024 regulations on the Tokyo 2020 boxing rules. This is to reduce the impact on athlete preparations and guarantee consistency between Olympic Games. These Tokyo 2020 rules are based on the post-Rio 2016 rules that were in force until the suspension of the AIBA’s recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2019 and the subsequent withdrawal of recognition in 2023.
We have already seen misleading information in reports about the participation of two female athletes in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The two athletes have competed in international boxing for many years, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the International Boxing Association (IBA) World Championships, and IBA-sanctioned competitions.
The two athletes became victims of a sudden and arbitrary decision by the IBA. They were suddenly disqualified at the end of the 2023 IBA World Championships without any due process.
According to the minutes published on the IBA website, the decision was initially made only by the IBA Secretary General and CEO. The IBA Board of Directors only approved it later and only then asked for procedures to be developed in similar cases and reflected in the IBA regulations. The minutes also stated that the IBA should “establish clear procedures on gender testing”.
The current attack on the two athletes is based entirely on this arbitrary decision, which was made without any due process – especially considering that these athletes have been competing in top-level competitions for many years.
This practice goes against the principles of good governance.
Qualification rules should not be changed in the middle of an ongoing competition, and any rule changes must follow due process and should be based on scientific evidence.
The IOC is committed to protecting the human rights of all athletes participating in the Olympic Games, in line with the Olympic Charter, the IOC Code of Ethics and the IOC Strategic Framework on Human Rights. The IOC is deeply saddened by the abuse currently being suffered by these two athletes.
The IOC withdrew its recognition of the IBA in 2023, having previously suspended it in 2019. The decision to withdraw recognition has been confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). See the IOC statement following the ruling.
The IOC has made clear that it needs consensus among the national boxing federations around a new international federation in order for boxing to be included in the programme of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
