Maryam Abu Daqqa, a leader in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, recounted the details of what happened to her in France, where she was there to give lectures on the Palestinian issue.
Maryam clarified that she travelled to France – at the invitation of French activists and progressives who support the Palestinian Cause – to give lectures on the subject. This visit was scheduled to last for 40 days – and was intended to include lectures on the “History of Palestinian Women”, “Palestinian Women and Children”, and “People Living Under Occupation.”
Maryam added, “But when I arrived, I found a major campaign against me orchestrated by the French Authorities who were acting in open collusion with the Zionist lobby. These French people described me as a terrorist.” She continued, “I gave the first lecture, but when I was to give the second lecture, the university prevented me from entering, even though all I was talking about was the history and present existence of Palestine, and the demand for the establishment of an independent Palestinian State.” She explained that when she was going to Marseille to give a lecture, she found the French Police pursuing her – as if she were a criminal!
“I was surprised by the French methods. They ambushed me, put me in a hotel under house arrest, and then deported me out of France,” she pointed out, noting that she had filed a legal case regarding what happened to her in France.
The Palestinian leader indicated that 30 members of her family were martyred on the first day of the Zionist war on Gaza, She asked, “Is it reasonable for me not to talk about them and the massacres that occur in the Gaza Strip?” “Should a person die without makng a sound?”
She added, “I was shocked by this demonstration of so-called French democracy that we were told existed in Europe. In fact, we are the ones who should teach them democracy, as these hypocrites have nothing to teach us,” stressing that the Palestinian people have no enmity with anyone, but rather the problem is with the Zionist Occupation. Only with a fascist Israel.
A few days ago, the French Authorities deported Maryam Abu Daqqa from France to Cairo – after the State Council (the highest Administrative Court in the country) approved her deportation.
Maryam comes from the town of Abasan Al Kabira in the Khan Yunis Governorate, South of the Gaza Strip, and she holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree – as well as Doctorates in Philosophy and the Social Sciences.
The Israeli Occupation has arrested Maryam Abu Daqqa several times before her deportation to Jordan in 1970, after which she moved throughout her exile between a number of countries around the world – until her return in 1996.
In 1992, she became a member of the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and then She was chosen as a member of the Front’s Political Bureau in 2000. Currently, the Israeli Occupation (and the European Union) classify the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine as a “terrorist organization.”

روت مريم أبو دقة، القيادية في “الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين، تفاصيل ما جرى معها في فرنسا، حيث كانت هناك لإلقاء محاضرات عن القضية الفلسطينية.
وقالت مريم: إنها سافرت إلى فرنسا بناء على دعوة من ناشطين وتقدميين فرنسيين يدعمون القضية الفلسطينية، في زيارة كان مقررًا أن تكون مدتها 40 يومًا، وذلك لإلقاء محاضرات عن “تاريخ المرأة الفلسطينية والأسيرات والأطفال الفلسطينيين والشعب الذي يعيش تحت الاحتلال”.
وأضافت” لكن عندما وصلت، وجدت حملة كبيرة ضدي من السلطات الفرنسية واللوبي الصهيوني، ووصفوني بالإرهابية”. وتابعت، ألقيت أول محاضرة، لكن عندما ذهبت لألقي المحاضرة الثانية منعتني الجامعة من الدخول، رغم أن كل ما أتحدث عنه هو تاريخ وحاضر فلسطين، والمطالبة بإقامة دولة فلسطينية مستقلة”.
وأوضحت أنها عندما كانت ذاهبة إلى مرسيليا لإلقاء محاضرة، وجدت الشرطة تلاحقها، وقالت “فوجئت بالطريقة، عملوا لي كمين، ووضعوني في فندق تحت الإقامة الجبرية، وأخرجوني من فرنسا”، لافتة إلى أنها رفعت قضية بشأن ما حدث معها في فرنسا.
وأشارت القيادية الفلسطينية إلى أن 30 من أفراد عائلتها استُشهدوا في اليوم الأول من الحرب على غزة، وتساءلت “هل يُعقل أن لا أحكي عنهم وعن المجازر التي تحدث في قطاع غزة؟ هل يجب أن يموت الشخص ولا يتأوه حتى؟”.
وأضافت “صُدمت من الديمقراطية التي حكوا لنا عنها في أوروبا، في الواقع أننا مَن يجب أن نعلمهم الديمقراطية وليس هم”، مؤكدة أن الشعب الفلسطيني ليست لديه عداوة مع أحد، بل إن المشكلة مع الاحتلال الإسرائيلي فقط.
وقبل أيام، رحّلت السلطات الفرنسية مريم أبو دقة من فرنسا إلى القاهرة، بعدما صدَّق مجلس الدولة (أعلى محكمة إدارية في البلاد) على ترحيلها.
وتنحدر مريم من بلدة عبسان الكبيرة في محافظة خان يونس جنوبي قطاع غزة، وهي حاصلة على البكالوريوس والماجستير والدكتوراه في الفلسفة والعلوم الاجتماعية.
واعتقل الاحتلال الإسرائيلي مريم أبو دقة مرات عدة قبل إبعادها إلى الأردن عام 1970، حيث تنقلت طوال فترة إبعادها بين عدد من دول العالم حتى عودتها عام 1996.
وفي 1992، أصبحت عضوًا في اللجنة المركزية للجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين، ثم اختيرت عضوًا في المكتب السياسي للجبهة عام 2000، بينما يصنف الاحتلال الإسرائيلي والاتحاد الأوروبي الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين “منظمة إرهابية”.
