Israel violated all international norms and agreements, including those prohibiting the use of phosphorus bombs due to the health and environmental dangers caused by these weapons of mass destruction. The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Israeli forces used phosphorus bombs to devastate various areas of the Gaza Strip. According to Palestinian medical sources, Israel fired many phosphorus bombs at the port area in the western Gaza Strip, causing hundreds to suffer from suffocation, with a large number transferred to hospitals. Most of the injuries were observed among children and the elderly, especially those suffering from respiratory diseases.
The use of these bombs was not limited only to the Gaza Strip, but rather have been used on the outskirts of the towns of Al-Mari and Al-Majidiya in the Hasbaya District in Southern Lebanon. In this context, Human Rights Watch revealed the use of white phosphorus by the Israeli Occupation forces in Gaza and Lebanon, warning of the consequences of the use of these munitions on the lives of civilians. It considered that Israel’s use of white phosphorus in its military operations in Gaza and Lebanon exposes civilians to the risk of serious and long-term injuries.
Confirmed videos of these Zionist terror-attacks were filmed in Lebanon and Gaza on October 10th and 11th (2023) respectively, showing multiple aerial explosions of white phosphorus artillery over the port of Gaza City, and two rural sites along the Israeli-Lebanese border. Two eye-witnesses were interviewed who personally experienced these Zionist terror-attacks in Gaza!
The organization indicated that the use of white phosphorus in Gaza, one of the most densely populated areas in the world, exacerbates the risks to which civilians are exposed, and violates the prohibition imposed by International Humanitarian Law regarding the exposure of civilians to unnecessary risks.
In turn, Amnesty International said, “Our Crisis Evidence Laboratory collected evidence documenting the use of white phosphorus shells by Israeli military units in their bombing of the Gaza Strip.”
Israel’s use of internationally banned weapons, including white phosphorus, is not new. The Zionists have previously used this weapon in various battles, specifically against defenseless citizens in the Gaza Strip. Reports by Human Rights Watch showed that Israeli military forces have continuously used white phosphorus bombs, despite international warnings.
Phosphorus bombs are Internationally Prohibited under the Geneva Convention of 1980, which stipulated the prohibition of the use of white phosphorus as an incendiary weapon against humans and the environment, but Israel has deployed this illegal weapon many times in the past.
The phosphorus bomb is a destructive thermal bomb. International laws prohibit its use in civilian areas. White phosphorus is its most important component, from which it took its second name, “the white bomb.” It is used in wars to cause fires with the aim of clearing enemy positions, illuminating the battlefield at night, and distinguishing targets. It is also used to cause widespread human losses through burns and breathing diificulties.
Chemistry Professor Khaled Itani – defines white phosphorus as a chemical substance made from solid phosphate. It has a waxy consistency and an unpleasant smell, somewhat similar to the smell of garlic. It is usually a translucent white color that tends to be yellow, and may take on a dark colour when deployed. He told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed: “This material is used in many industries, including military industries, to manufacture bombs with a devastating effect.”
He confirms that when phosphorus is exposed to oxygen, that is, when bombs are fired into the air, this leads to a chemical reaction that then results in the generation of thermal energy exceeding 700 or 800 degrees Celsius, in addition to the release of thick white smoke. According to Itani, these bombs are usually known for their ability to directly start fires through contact, although several reports indicate that even the glow is capable of starting fires. Also, this material does not extinguish its fire once the bomb is fired, and can remain burning or flammable for several days – causing burning and other harm to humans shortly after the bombs have been fired.
For his part, medical Doctor Ghassan Farran told Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed: “The use of white phosphorus is forbidden due to its health repercussions and effects, as it is capable of penetrating the human body and burning the skin all the way to the bones.” He added: “Several scientific reports have addressed the dangers of using this substance, and it is among internationally banned weapons.” He explains that during the first hours of firing this substance into the air, severe fires may occur when it comes into contact with the skin or eyes. At another stage, people become unable to breathe. The rising smoke may lead to severe cases of suffocation, not to mention that phosphorus smoke causes irritation in the human body.” According to Fran, white phosphorus leads to severe second-and third-degree burns – quoting the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. It is a form of ‘gassing’ the Palestinians employed by fascist-Jews!
Exposure to White phosphorus may also lead to loss of vision. White phosphorus vapors cause severe irritation and a feeling of the presence of a foreign body in the eye, and this leads to excessive tear secretion, spastic blinking (blepharospasm), and increased sensitivity to light in the short term. White phosphorus particles can also enter the eye and infect the cornea, causing diseases, with people losing their sight as a result.
As for the second stage of the effects of phosphorus bombs, it begins after several days. In addition to breathing problems, birth defects can occur, especially if women are exposed to this substance during their pregnancy, and it also leads to the radiation causing environmental pollution and the spread of cancerous diseases.
The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention adds that incendiary weapons, regardless of how they are fired, cause great human suffering and horrific burns, whilst treating these burns is extremely painful and may lead to health and psychological complications.
In addition to its direct effects that lead to destruction and direct killing, the burns may have no cure! White phosphorus, according to Fran, has long-term effects. Many studies have shown that areas that were hit with phosphorus bombs witnessed an increase in the incidence of cancer, especially skin cancer, as the substances contained in the bomb pollute the soil, water and air.
In addition, dermatologist Walid Eid says: “Phosphorus is known to be a highly flammable and burning substance, and may lead to severe burns in the human body that reach the point of bone.” He adds: “What increases the danger of this substance is the possibility of it igniting again, as soon as human skin comes into contact with the air, as the chemicals that make up it interact with oxygen. Therefore, in many cases, when people with burns due to phosphorus radiation are transported, and after the wounds are healed and the bandages are removed, the skin could catch fire again.”
He explains that medical teams must “Exercise caution while helping people with burns. Also, the ability to completely treat burns is difficult, because they are usually in advanced stages.” He believes that the risks of infection with white phosphorus in particular may increase the possibility of poisoning of the organs and blood, especially after a significant skin burn.
Many experts point out that the use of these weapons is illegal under customary International Humanitarian Law and other international laws and treaties (1980 Protocol on Incendiary Weapons, 1992 Chemical Weapons Convention, 1997 International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings and others). Despite this, Israel is still using this weapon, and Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing War Crimes, after using white phosphorus bombs in Gaza during the winter of 2008-2009.
Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch indicate that Israeli forces repeatedly use air-explosive white phosphorus munitions from 155 mm artillery over populated areas in the Gaza Strip, specifically in 2008-2009, and each air-exploded shell caused tremendous suffering! Deploying 116 burning pieces of white phosphorus in a radius of up to 125 metres from the point of explosion, which leads to the injury of a large number of civilians. According to investigations conducted by Human Rights Watch, white phosphorus attacks caused dozens of civilians to suffer burns or smoke inhalation. Human Rights Watch said in its report, following Israel’s use of this weapon, that “white phosphorus attacks caused damage to civilian buildings, including a school, a market, a humanitarian aid warehouse, and a hospital.”

الفسفور الأبيض… سلاح محرّم دولياً تستخدمه إسرائيل

خرقت إسرائيل جميع الأعراف والاتفاقيات الدولية، من بينها تلك التي تحرّم استخدام القنابل الفسفورية نظراً لخطورتها صحياً وبيئياً. وكشفت وزارة الخارجية الفلسطينية عن استخدام القوات الإسرائيلية قنابل فسفورية لقصف مناطق مختلفة من قطاع غزة. وبحسب مصادر طبية فلسطينية، أطلقت إسرائيل العديد من القنابل الفسفورية على منطقة الميناء غربي القطاع، ما أدى إلى إصابة المئات بحالات اختناق، كما نقل عدد كبير منهم إلى المستشفيات، ولوحظت معظم الإصابات بين الأطفال وكبار السن، وخصوصاً المصابين بأمراض تنفسية.
ولم يكن استخدام هذه القنابل محصوراً فقط داخل قطاع غزة، بل استخدمته على أطراف بلدتي الماري والمجيدية في قضاء حاصبيا في جنوب لبنان. في هذا السياق، كشفت منظمة “هيومن رايتس ووتش” عن استخدام قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي الفسفور الأبيض في غزة ولبنان، محذرة من عواقب استخدام هذه الذخائر على حياة المدنيين. واعتبرت أن استخدام إسرائيل الفسفور الأبيض في عملياتها العسكرية في غزة ولبنان يعرّض المدنيين لخطر الإصابة بجروح خطيرة وطويلة الأمد.
وتحققت من مقاطع فيديو جرى التقاطها في لبنان وغزة، في 10 و11 أكتوبر/ تشرين الأول الجاري، على التوالي، تظهر انفجارات جوية متعددة للفسفور الأبيض المدفعي فوق ميناء مدينة غزة، وموقعين ريفيين على طول الحدود الإسرائيلية اللبنانية، وأجرت مقابلات مع شاهدين على استخدامه في غزة.
وبيّنت المنظمة أن استخدام الفسفور الأبيض في غزة، وهي إحدى أكثر المناطق اكتظاظاً بالسكان في العالم، يؤدي إلى تفاقم المخاطر التي يتعرّض لها المدنيون، وينتهك الحظر الذي يفرضه القانون الإنساني الدولي على تعريض المدنيين لمخاطر غير ضرورية.
بدورها، قالت منظمة العفو الدولية إن “مختبر أدلة الأزمات لدينا جمع أدلة توثق استخدام الوحدات العسكرية الإسرائيلية لقذائف الفوسفور الأبيض في قصفها قطاع غزة”.
استخدام إسرائيل الأسلحة المحرمة دولياً، ومن ضمنها الفسفور الأبيض، ليس أمراً جديداً بالنسبة إليها. وسبق لها أن استخدمت هذا السلاح في معارك مختلفة، وتحديداً ضد المواطنين العزل في قطاع غزة. وأظهرت تقارير لمنظمة “هيومن رايتس ووتش” الحقوقية أن القوات العسكرية الإسرائيلية استخدمت قنابل الفسفور الأبيض، على الرغم من التحذيرات الدولية.
والقنابل الفسفورية محرمة دولياً بموجب اتفاقية جنيف لعام 1980، التي نصّت على تحريم استخدام الفسفور الأبيض كسلاح حارق ضد البشر والبيئة، إلا أن لإسرائيل تجارب عديدة مع استخدام هذا السلاح.
والقنبلة الفسفورية قنبلة حرارية مدمرة، تحظر القوانين الدولية استخدامها في المناطق المدنية، ويشكل الفسفور الأبيض مكونها الأهم، ومنه أخذت تسميتها الثانية “القنبلة البيضاء”، وتستخدم في الحروب لإحداث حرائق بهدف تطهير مواقع العدو، وإضاءة ساحة المعركة ليلاً، وتمييز الأهداف، كما تُستخدم لإحداث خسائر بشرية واسعة النطاق.
ويُعرّف أستاذ مادة الكيمياء، خالد عيتاني، الفسفور الأبيض بأنه مادة كيميائية مصنعة من الفوسفات الصلب، لها قوام شمعي ورائحة كريهة، تشبه إلى حد ما رائحة الثوم، وعادة ما تكون ذات لون أبيض شفاف تميل إلى الاصفرار، وقد تتخذ لوناً داكناً عند تحطمها. ويقول لـ “العربي الجديد”: “تستخدم هذه المادة في العديد من الصناعات، ومن ضمنها الصناعات العسكرية لتصنيع القنابل ذات التأثير المدمر”.
ويؤكد أنه عند تعرض الفسفور للأكسجين، أي عند رمي القنابل في الهواء، يؤدي ذلك إلى حدوث تفاعل كيميائي ينتج عنه بعد ذلك توليد طاقة حرارية تتخطى 700 أو 800 درجة مئوية، بالإضافة إلى خروج دخان أبيض كثيف. وبحسب عيتاني، عادة ما تعرف هذه القنابل بقدرتها على إشعال الحرائق، حتى إن تقارير عدة تشير إلى أن وهجها قادر على إشعال النار. كما أن هذه المادة لا تخمد نيرانها بمجرد إلقاء القنبلة، إذ يمكن أن تبقى مشتعلة أو قابلة للاشتعال لأيام عدة، وتتسبب في حدوث حروق وأضرار للبشر بعد فترة وجيزة من إلقاء القنابل.
من جهته، يقول طبيب الصحة غسان فران لـ “العربي الجديد”: “استخدام الفسفور الأبيض يعد محرماً نظراً لانعكاساته وتأثيراته الصحية، إذ هو قادر على اختراق جسم الإنسان وحرق الجلد وصولاً إلى العظام”. يضيف: “تناولت تقارير علمية عدة مخاطر استخدام هذه المادة، وهي ضمن الأسلحة المحرمة دولياً”. ويشرح أنه خلال الساعات الأولى لإلقاء هذه المادة في الهواء، قد تحدث حرائق شديدة لدى ملامستها الجلد أو العينين. وفي مرحلة أخرى، يصبح الأشخاص غير قادرين على التنفس. وقد يؤدي الدخان المتصاعد إلى حدوث حالات اختناق شديدة، ناهيك عن أن دخان الفسفور يؤدي إلى حدوث تهيج في جسم الإنسان”. وبحسب فران، فإن الفسفور الأبيض يؤدي إلى حدوث حروق قوية من الدرجتين الثانية والثالثة.
وبحسب مراكز السيطرة على الأمراض والوقاية منها، فإن التعرض للفسفور الأبيض قد يؤدي إلى فقدان البصر. وتسبّب أبخرة الفسفور الأبيض تهيجاً شديداً وإحساساً بوجود جسم غريب في العين، وهذا يؤدي إلى الإفراط في إفراز الدموع ووميض تشنجي (تشنج الجفن)، وزيادة الحساسية للضوء على المدى القريب، كما يمكن لدخول جزئيات الفسفور الأبيض إلى داخل العين أن يصيب القرنية، وبالتالي حدوث التهابات، وقد يفقد الأشخاص بصرهم نتيجة لذلك.
أما المرحلة الثانية لتأثيرات القنابل الفسفورية، فتبدأ بعد أيام عدة. بالإضافة إلى مشاكل في التنفس، يمكن حصول تشوهات خلقية، وخصوصاً إذ تعرضت النساء لهذه المادة خلال حملهن، كما يؤدي الشعاع إلى حصول تلوث بيئي وانتشار الأمراض السرطانية.
تضيف مراكز السيطرة على الأمراض والوقاية منها، أن الأسلحة الحارقة، وبغض النظر عن كيفية إطلاقها، تتسبب في معاناة إنسانية كبيرة وحروق مروعة، كما أن علاج الحروق مؤلم بشكل كبير وقد يؤدي إلى حدوث مضاعفات صحية ونفسية.
بالإضافة إلى آثاره المباشرة التي تؤدي إلى التدمير والقتل المباشر والحروقات التي قد لا يكون لها علاج، فإن الفسفور الأبيض، بحسب فران، له تأثيرات طويلة المدى. وأظهرت الكثير من الدراسات أن المناطق التي تعرضت لقصف بالقنابل الفسفورية شهدت زيادة في نسبة الإصابة بأمراض السرطان، وخصوصاً سرطان الجلد، إذ إن المواد الموجودة في القنبلة تلوث التربة والمياه والهواء.
إلى ذلك، يقول طبيب الأمراض الجلدية وليد عيد: “يعرف عن الفسفور بأنه مادة شديدة الاشتعال والحرق، وقد تؤدي إلى حدوث حروقات بالغة في جسم الإنسان تصل إلى حد العظام”. يضيف: “ما يزيد من خطورة هذه المادة إمكانية اشتعالها مجدداً، بمجرد أن يلامس جلد الإنسان الهواء، إذ تتفاعل المواد الكيميائية المكونة لها مع الأكسجين. لذلك في حالات عديدة، وعندما يجري نقل الأشخاص المصابين بحروق بسبب إشعاعات الفسفور، وبعد تضميد الجراح وإزالة الضمادات، يمكن أن يشتعل الجلد مجدداً”.
ويوضح أنه يتوجب على الطواقم الطبية “التعامل بحذر أثناء مساعدة الأشخاص المصابين بالحروق. كما أن إمكانية معالجة الحروق بشكل تام أمر صعب، لأنها عادة ما تكون في مراحل متقدمة”. ويرى أن مخاطر الإصابة بالفسفور الأبيض تحديداً قد تزيد من احتمال حصول تسمم في الأعضاء والدم، وخصوصاً بعد احتراق الجلد بنسبة كبيرة.
يشير العديد من الخبراء إلى أن استخدام هذه الأسلحة يعد عملاً غير قانوني بموجب القانون الإنساني الدولي العرفي والقوانين والمعاهدات الدولية الأخرى (بروتوكول عام 1980 بشأن الأسلحة الحارقة، واتفاقية الأسلحة الكيميائية لعام 1992، والاتفاقية الدولية لقمع الهجمات الإرهابية بالقنابل لعام 1997 وغيرها). وعلى الرغم من ذلك، لا تزال إسرائيل تستخدم هذا السلاح، وقد اتهمت منظمة العفو الدولية إسرائيل بارتكاب جرائم حرب، بعد استخدام قنابل الفسفور الأبيض في غزة خلال شتاء 2008-2009.
وتشير كل من منظمة العفو الدولية و”هيومن رايتس ووتش”، إلى أن القوات الإسرائيلية استخدمت بشكل متكرر ذخائر الفسفور الأبيض المتفجرة جواً من مدفعية عيار 155 ملم فوق مناطق مأهولة بالسكان في قطاع غزة، وتحديداً عام 2008-2009، وتسببت كل قذيفة تنفجر جواً في نشر 116 قطعة فسفور أبيض مشتعلة في دائرة نصف قطرها يصل إلى 125 متراً من نقطة الانفجار، الأمر الذي يؤدي إلى إصابة عدد كبير من المدنيين. وبحسب تحقيقات أجرتها “هيومن رايتس ووتش”، تسببت هجمات الفسفور الأبيض بإصابة عشرات المدنيين بحروق أو باستنشاق الدخان. وقالت “هيومن رايتس ووتش”، في تقرير لها، إثر استخدام إسرائيل هذا السلاح، إن “هجمات الفسفور الأبيض ألحقت أضراراً بالمباني المدنية، بما في ذلك مدرسة وسوق ومخزن للمساعدات الإنسانية ومستشفى”.
