Ukrainian Army Achieves Feat (?) – Whilst Moscow Urgently Deals with Three “Mutineers”!

In a recent notable achievement – (US-provided) Ukrainian Air Defenses successfully intercepted six Kinzhal (hypersonic) missiles originating from Russia. The feat was seen as a slap in the face to experts around the world who “doubted” the ability to defend against hypersonic missiles!
The Ukrainian Military has claimed to have successfully intercepted a Kinzhal Missile using the US-supplied “Patriot Missile” System! However, many experts around the world remain skeptical – arguing that the as usual – the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense is either “exaggerating” or making “inaccurate” (or “false”) statements to cover-up its continuous military losses and set-backs! However, it did not take long for the Ukrainian Air Defense to claim yet another “triumph” – this time simultaneously “intercepting” six incoming “Dagger” Missiles in just ONE single (military) action! If correct – this achievement undoubtedly dispels the myth that “Hypersonic Missiles cannot be effectively defended against effectively” – and at the same time demonstrates to the world the fearsome capabilities of the Ukrainian Army!
In the face of Ukraine’s “suspect” military record – Russian Defense Minister Shoigu tried downplayed this achievement, emphasizing that the Russian Army did not launch this number of “Dagger” Missiles in air strikes – implying that such an artificially HIGH number “could NOT have been shot-down”! This undoubtedly conveys Russia’s doubts about Ukraine’s rhetoric – but only Ukraine and Russia know the truth of the matter. However, a recent “Espionage Scandal” in Russia seems to provide evidence that the Ukrainian “Interception” stories may NOT be the “nonsense” they first appear to be on paper!
According to reports in the Russian media – the recent arrest of a scientist, Valery Zvikintsev, caused a shock in the Russian scientific community. Zvikintsev, an expert in hypersonic aerodynamics – was charged with “treason”. He has published more than 300 papers in this field and holds more than ten patents. He has made an important contribution to Russia’s achievements in the field of hypersonic weapons.
This is already the third scientist arrested in the field of hypersonic missiles since June last year! In June last year (2022), Maslov, the chief researcher of the Siberian branch, was arrested on suspicion of “transferring secret State data related to missiles.” Immediately afterwards, Hipuyuk, Director of the Institute of Theory and Mechanics of the Academy – was also arrested by the Police. These three scientists can all be called Russia’s “National Treasure” level of scientific experts. They have made outstanding contributions to the field of hypersonic missiles. However – these “experts” have been arrested one after another – which shows the seriousness of this apparent “leak” problem! The fact that the Russian side chose to treat the behaviour of these “experts” as “treason” – is enough to illustrate the seriousness of this situation!
These three consecutive “treason” cases have made people wonder how many of Russia’s hypersonic missile secrets have been leaked – and whether sensitive data has even fallen into the hands of hostile forces! The arrests of these scientists suggest that Russia’s hypersonic technology may be seriously threatened – and the secrecy of its missile development programme seriously compromised!
On today’s world stage, hypersonic missiles are considered an extremely important “deterrent” weapon system – as the ultra-high speed manoeuvrability of these missiles is virtually impossible for traditional defence sysems to counter! However, the (apparent) “successful” intercept operation carried out by Ukrainian Air Defense force has given the world an important revelation – namely that “hypersonic missiles are not indefensible”!
Ukraine’s (apparent) military achievement not only demonstrates the strength of its military – but also reveals the difficulties Russia may face in the field of hypersonics. Russia needs to carefully examine internal security issues and strengthen confidentiality measures in sensitive scientific research areas – to prevent the leakage of important technologies.
As the world situation continues to evolve – the development and application of hypersonic technology will continue to attract global attention. Countries should strengthen cooperation to jointly address this challenge and seek more effective means of defense.
