Translator’s Note: I am in contact with many of the young members of the Communist Party of Russia who took part in the October 4th protests in Moscow. The CPRF states the police were aware of the march and had given permission for it. The police state they knew nothing about and had not given permission. Here-in lies the conflict. One side would not back down and the other side would not compromise. Now, the young people were hot-headed and behaved in an undisciplined manner at a time when Russia is at war with Neo-Nazi Ukraine and is under siege by a corrupt West. Yes – October 4th was a terrible capitalist crime – but the CPRF (particularly the Leninist Young Communist League) – must learn to be disciplined and listen to the older people. The CPRF must not become the “enemy within” when Russia is busy combatting a sustained external attack. I hope that “agents provocateur” (Trotskyites and CIA, etc) have not infiltrated the CPRF and are attempting to drive a wedge between the CPRF, the Russian people, and the government of Russia (just think about how many Russians have fought and died – including Communists). The last thing we need is for the CPRF to be “banned”. Timely protest important – but untimely protest is disastrous and uncalled for. Remember, the Lugansk and Donetsk Republics were declared “Socialist” in nature. The Russians lost their freedom when the USSR was abolished in 1991 – but the rot began in 1956 with Khrushchev’s demonisation of Stalin and the eventual election of Gorbachev. The betrayal of Lenin and Stalin has been a long and winding slippery slope. This has set-back the cause of Communism by decades. The CPRF is now an aspect of the capitalist system it has to work within. Acting in a manner which ignores this reality defies the dialectics of historical materialism. The current government is not directly responsible for 1991 or 1993. Work with it – not against it. The bigger picture involves the confronting of Neo-Nazism in Ukraine. ACW (10.10.2026)
The leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation sharply condemned the detentions of participants in a commemorative action in Moscow dedicated to the defenders of Soviet power who died in the fall of 1993.
According to Gennady Andreevich, the event was agreed and held peacefully. The participants marched with portraits of the dead and honoured their memory at the cross. However, the police began mass detentions: 65 people were taken to five departments and interrogated until four in the morning.
“From a moral and political point of view, this is a challenge to the entire society. Who gave these commands must be investigated,” Zyuganov said.
Gennady Andreevich stressed that many young people came to the action – people who want to know the history of their country and honour the memory of its heroes. The deputies of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation had to appeal to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the leadership of the Moscow police, until late at night to seek the release of the detainees, meet them and help them get home.
Zyuganov intends to raise the issue at the Council of the State Duma and at the plenary session, as well as appeal to the Security Committee with a request to understand what happened. He stressed that the organizers of the provocation should be identified primarily by the leadership of Moscow.
“This is a provocation against everyone. Because on this day it is unacceptable from any point of view.”
Zyuganov also drew attention to the scale of the information resonance: “But I want to tell the organizers who staged this bacchanalia. What they shouted was heard by 50 people at most. And what these provocateurs did was 10 million views in the morning. The whole country found out.”
