The AICA Laboratories plant restarts operations after investment that expands its capacities, guaranteeing cancer medicines for the Cuban people

In a context of severe economic limitations and tightening of the blockade, Cuba takes a decisive step to support the care of cancer patients. The cytostatic plant of Laboratorios AICA restarted its production operations after completing an investment process aimed at expanding its capacities, news that ratifies the will of the Cuban State to prioritize the life and health of its people.
The president of BioCubaFarma, Mayda Mauri Pérez, received the Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, at the facility, in a day that evidenced the integrated work between the biopharmaceutical industry, MINSAP and the Cuban Government, a key factor in achieving this reactivation despite the current complex scenario.
According to a publication by the biopharmaceutical group on Facebook, during the tour, specialists explained that the start-up constitutes a staggered and controlled start-up process, in which each production phase is activated gradually to ensure technological stability and the quality of the drugs.
The plant, now with greater capacities, is responsible for paying 16 cytostatics to the National Programme for the Care of Cancer Patients. Production will resume prioritizing those drugs with the highest clinical criticality, according to the schedules agreed with the Ministry of Public Health.
By attending the restart of operations of the cytostatic plant of AICA Laboratories, Portal Miranda meant that, in the midst of economic limitations, its start-up will contribute to guaranteeing drugs for the treatment of cancer.
For her part, Mayda Mauri Pérez underscored the current moment and highlighted the solid alliance between the biopharmaceutical and health sectors as an essential pillar to sustain the supply of cancer drugs to the Cuban population, despite the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
The visit was also attended by medical oncologists, who exchanged criteria with the managers on therapeutic priorities, thus ensuring that the production responds directly to the clinical needs of patients.
The reactivation of this plant is not an isolated event: it is an eloquent example of how the Cuban biotechnology industry and the Public Health System work in total alliance, under the same objective: to guarantee the coverage of essential medicines at the most pressing time. In a country that faces externally induced shortages, each drug produced in this plant represents sovereignty, hope and commitment to the right to health of all Cubans.

En un contexto de severas limitaciones económicas y recrudecimiento del bloqueo, Cuba da un paso decisivo para respaldar la atención a pacientes oncológicos. La planta de citostáticos de Laboratorios AICA reinició sus operaciones productivas luego de culminar un proceso inversionista dirigido a ampliar sus capacidades, una noticia que ratifica la voluntad del Estado cubano de priorizar la vida y la salud de su pueblo.
La presidenta de BioCubaFarma, Mayda Mauri Pérez, recibió en la instalación al ministro de Salud Pública, José Angel Portal Miranda, en una jornada que evidenció el trabajo integrado entre la industria biofarmacéutica, el Minsap y el Gobierno cubano, factor clave para lograr esta reactivación pese al complejo escenario actual.
De acuerdo con una publicación del grupo biofarmacéutico en Facebook, durante el recorrido, especialistas explicaron que la puesta en marcha constituye un proceso de arrancada escalonado y controlado, en el que cada fase productiva se activa de manera gradual para asegurar la estabilidad tecnológica y la calidad de los fármacos.
La planta, ahora con mayores capacidades, tiene la responsabilidad de tributar 16 citostáticos al Programa Nacional de Atención a Pacientes Oncológicos. La producción se retomará priorizando aquellos medicamentos de mayor criticidad clínica, según los cronogramas acordados con el Ministerio de Salud Pública.
Al asistir al reinicio de operaciones de la planta de citostáticos de Laboratorios AICA, Portal Miranda significó que, en medio de limitaciones económicas, su puesta en marcha contribuirá a garantizar medicamentos para el tratamiento del cáncer.
Por su parte, Mayda Mauri Pérez subrayó el momento actual y destacó la alianza sólida entre los sectores biofarmacéutico y sanitario como pilar esencial para sostener el suministro de medicamentos oncológicos a la población cubana, a pesar del recrudecimiento del bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero impuesto por Estados Unidos.
La visita contó también con la presencia de médicos oncólogos, quienes intercambiaron criterios con los directivos sobre las prioridades terapéuticas, asegurando así que la producción responda directamente a las necesidades clínicas de los pacientes.
La reactivación de esta planta no es un hecho aislado: constituye una muestra elocuente de cómo la industria biotecnológica cubana y el Sistema de Salud Pública trabajan en total alianza, bajo un mismo objetivo: garantizar la cobertura de medicamentos esenciales en el momento más apremiante. En un país que enfrenta carencias inducidas desde el exterior, cada fármaco producido en esta planta representa soberanía, esperanza y el compromiso con el derecho a la salud de todos los cubanos.
