On the Evolution of Fascism in America Under Trump
Two months into Trump’s second term, what was initially considered a “light whiff of fascism” has transformed into a “stench.”
Historically, the communist movement has identified two key indicators of the rise of fascism:
1. Suppression of the union movement.
2. Suppression of the communist movement.
With regard to the union movement, Trump wasted no time in dismantling the National Labour Relations Board (NLRB), the body responsible for adjudicating matters of organized labour at the national level. He did so by removing the board’s leading members to the point where it was unable to achieve a quorum and thus unable to make any decisions. Subsequently, by court order, only one member, Gwen Wilcox, was reappointed, while the general counsel was not. Trump’s choice for the new General Counsel, Crystal Carey, is a partner at Morgan Lewis, a law firm known for its anti-union stance. Furthermore, Trump has appealed Wilcox’s reappointment, and his appeal may reach the Supreme Court, which has a hostile stance toward labour interests.
Furthermore, Trump issued executive orders nullifying collective bargaining agreements reached with federal government employee unions before he took office. Through the “Department of Government Efficiency,” his administration, aided by monopoly capitalists like Elon Musk, has sought to terminate the employment of as many federal government employees as possible. These layoffs result in reduced dues payments to government unions, further weakening them. A bill is now being advanced in the Senate to ban federal employees from unionizing altogether.
As for the communist movement, the Trump administration has not focused much on it due to its limited influence in the United States today. However, he sees liberalism as communism, and has therefore targeted it for attack. These attacks have manifested in portraying liberals as “left-wing Marxists,” enemies, and traitors.
The introduction to Project 2025, the Trump administration’s second action plan, states:
“The long march of cultural Marxism through our institutions has been realized. The federal government has become a weaponized monster against American citizens and conservative values, and freedom and liberalism are threatened as never before.”
Furthermore, Project 2025 aims to:
“Eliminate Marxist indoctrination and divisive programmes like Critical Race Theory, and eliminate newly created offices and positions related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
Thus, from Trump’s own perspective, he is doing everything in his power to attack what he calls the “Marxist movement.”

Finally, as the Trump administration continues to dismantle the American economy through policies such as tariffs, and as the hegemony of American imperialism crumbles on the international stage, the tactic of blaming oppressed minorities has once again become prominent. In just a few months, we have witnessed a massive rise in anti-Semitism, anti-Muslimism, anti-diversity and equity policies, anti-immigrantism, anti-liberalism, and anti-science among those in positions of power in our country. These behaviors have ranged from inflammatory rhetoric to repressive legislation to actual actions.
These are age-old tactics used by fascists to divide people and prevent the formation of a unified resistance movement against their rule. All progressive Americans must continually fight against these tactics, as they will not cease as long as the capitalist system remains in place. Americans must understand that the motivation behind fascism is not just theoretical tyranny, but a concrete expression of the will of big business and the military-industrial complex, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), to suppress democratic institutions.

حول تطور الفاشية في أمريكا تحت حكم ترامب
بعد شهرين من بداية الولاية الثانية لترامب، تحول ما كان يُعتبر في البداية مجرد “رائحة خفيفة من الفاشية” إلى “رائحة كريهة”.
تاريخياً، حددت الحركة الشيوعية مؤشرين رئيسيين يشيران إلى بروز الفاشية:
1. قمع الحركة النقابية.
2. قمع الحركة الشيوعية.
فيما يتعلق بالحركة النقابية، لم يُضِع ترامب أي وقت في تفكيك المجلس الوطني لعلاقات العمل (NLRB)، وهو الجهة المسؤولة عن البت في قضايا العمالة المنظمة على المستوى الوطني. وقد فعل ذلك من خلال إقالة الأعضاء القياديين في المجلس إلى الحد الذي جعله غير قادر على تحقيق النصاب القانوني، وبالتالي عاجزًا عن اتخاذ أي قرارات. وفي وقت لاحق، وبأمر من المحكمة، تم إعادة تعيين عضو واحد فقط، وهي غوين ويلكوكس، بينما لم يُعَد تعيين المستشار العام. أما اختيار ترامب لمنصب المستشار العام الجديد، كريستال كاري، فهي شريكة في شركة المحاماة مورغان لويس، التي تشتهر بمحاربة النقابات العمالية. وعلاوة على ذلك، فقد استأنف ترامب قرار إعادة تعيين ويلكوكس، وقد يصل استئنافه إلى المحكمة العليا، التي تتبنى موقفًا معاديًا لمصالح العمال.

أخيراً، مع استمرار إدارة ترامب في تفكيك الاقتصاد الأمريكي من خلال سياسات مثل فرض الرسوم الجمركية، ومع انهيار هيمنة الإمبريالية الأمريكية على الساحة الدولية، عاد تكتيك تحميل الأقليات المضطهدة المسؤولية ليصبح بارزاً من جديد. ففي غضون أشهر قليلة، شهدنا تصاعدًا هائلًا في معاداة السامية، ومعاداة المسلمين، ومعاداة سياسات التنوع والإنصاف، ومعاداة المهاجرين، ومعاداة الليبراليين، ومعاداة العلم بين أولئك الذين يتقلدون مناصب السلطة في بلادنا. وقد تراوحت هذه السلوكيات بين الخطاب التحريضي، والتشريعات القمعية، والإجراءات الفعلية.
هذه أساليب قديمة يستخدمها الفاشيون لتقسيم الناس ومنع تشكيل حركة مقاومة موحدة ضد سلطتهم. ويجب على جميع الأمريكيين التقدميين أن يقاتلوا ضد هذه الأساليب باستمرار، لأنها لن تتوقف طالما ظل النظام الرأسمالي قائماً.
