Calibration Hits “57” So It’s Time To Excuse My Little Self-Indulgence….! (30.5.2024)

Myself at the Buddhapadipa Temple - 28.5.2024!
Black Robe of the Caodong Chinese Ch’an School!

My academic (and Ch’an) teacher – Richard Hunn (Upasaka Wen Shu) – lived into his 57th year and was struck-down by cancer far too early (passing in 2006)! I suspect I will last a few years yet – but we never can tell! Still, I rise early to perform my academic and spiritual duties.

57 on Doughnuts!

Although now married with children – I have permission to still wear the black-robe of the Caodong Ch’an School – and to carry the Dust-Whisk of Authority. Of course, the only authority I possess is over my own mind and body. Oh, and I love The Beatles! My mother – Diane Wyles – says I was born in Oxford at 2:15 pm!

The Beatles & a St Albans Icon!

The family – local and extended – have been as generous as ever! Cards, chocolate and cash aplenty! I am currently listening to The Beatles in “Mono” – as experts inform me that The Beatles should be listened to in the format in which they were originally recorded – as they perfected a unique way of recording in “Mono” – a different feel no-less. I see what they mean – but I like both the “Mono” and “Stereo” – as the unique sound shines through! Whatever it is that you do – do not give-up – but always seek-out a new way of looking at things.

I find my own birthday slightly embarrassing and try to avoid self-indulgence. Still, each opportunity is a chance to communicate and inspire one another. In the Western tradition those experiencing the birthday receives gifts, cards and best wishes – whilst in the Chinese tradition the birthday person is responsible for treating everyone around them. I benefit from the former – but prefer the latter! Peace and love to you all!

Happy Birthday!
From Ray & Paul!
