Old Portrait of Mao Zedong at Tiananmen!

China: New 2006 Portait of Mao Zedong! (18.5.2024)

Beijing’s Tiananmen portrait is replaced with a newly painted portrait of Chairman Mao Zedong!

On the evening of September 27th, 2006 workers replaced the portrait of Chairman Mao Zedong on the Tiananmen Gate in Beijing. That night, the staff of the Tiananmen Area Management Committee placed the newly painted portrait of Chairman Mao Zedong on the newly renovated Tiananmen Gate. Tiananmen welcomed the 57th Anniversary of the National Day with a new look.

This new “Portrait of Mao Zedong” is a reconstruction of the parent version – that large portrait which was first hung on the Tiananmen Gate – from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s.
