We are not fans of the British Writer – Agatha Christie (1890-1976) – which is probably why we had no idea that her birth name was ‘Agatha Miller’! As her first husband was surnamed ‘Christie’ – that is the name she became famous under – although her pen-name was officially recorded as being ‘Mary Westmacott’. It must be made clear that Agatha Christie was ‘White’ and middle-class by birth. Wherever the British Empire extended throughout the world, the White middle and upper-classes in the UK were able to flow with impunity into these foreign lands and do anything they wished to the local population (protected by the ‘armed’ British Authorities) – whilst exploiting and even stealing the historical artefacts associated with these cultures.
Agatha Christie was an amateur archaeologist – and both her and her husband were renowned for travelling to Iraq, Afghanistan and other places to take-part in unauthorised ‘digs’ which saw valuable objects ‘stolen’ and brought back to the UK. This process of British Colonialism ensured that the Museums and stately homes of the UK are crammed full of such historically and culturally important objects, documents and various intangible materials. The former home of Agatha Christie is nothing less than an observable record of this historical crime initiated by British Imperialism.

As matters stand, the National Trust charges around £35 for a family of four to look around the interior of the house – but does not want the general public to know that anyone can walk around the gardens and exterior of the house free of charge. This explains why each visitor is requested to ‘Book’ a parking-space prior to being permitted to look around the house – and some of the Staff in the house act in a bizarre and suspicious manner when ‘guests’ (which might not be ‘paying’ to enter the house) gravitate toward the front-door of the mansion! Let’s face it, if all these stolen artefacts were given back to their rightful owners – the National Trust would be showing paying visitors around rooms containing only British-made table and chairs!
