Africa: Chinese Traditional Culture at Togo’s Independence Day! (28.4.2026)

A Chinese traditional culture contingent composed of students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Lome made its debut as the first folklore group in the procession, marking the first appearance of a foreign cultural contingent in the history of Togo’s Independence Day parade.

A total of 34 Confucius Institute students, dressed in traditional Hanfu and ethnic costumes, held peony-patterned umbrellas, while dragon and lion dance performers moved among them.

The display conveyed sincere festive greetings to the Togolese people and won warm applause and high praise from the audience.

Wang told Xinhua that the presence of “Chinese red” stood out in the procession, complementing Togo’s traditional cultural formations and jointly painting a vivid picture of harmonious exchanges between Chinese and Togolese civilizations.

She added that the performance had become a highlight of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.

If it was not for the fact I found this on Chinese-language media – I would think this was a fake (anti-China) article emanating from the West. However, the fact that a “settlement” has already been reached suggests the story is true and I assume the woman concerned has received a financial sum as compensation. The CPC used to have a liberal attitude toward smoking – creating a completely independent tobacco industry designed to “purify” the smoking experience and remove all the negative health effects from it – a very different approach to the abstaining and disapproving West. It seems that as the older generation dies-away – the Chinese State is directing Chinese society away from any public displays of smoking. It would seem that the woman in question (the “victim”) was attempting to enforce the law at the Bus Station – but was “arrested” alongside the man allegedly breaking the law. The fact the CPC has allowed this story to be perpetuated into the foreign media suggests a damage limitation exercise is in effect.

Things will not racially improve if China just pretends (or even actually becomes) “capitalist”. As I write, I know Chinese students are being illegally taken into custody and forcibly questioned by the US authorities regarding their association with the Communist Party. China complains here and there about this – but does very little on the practical level as trade is considered more important – and that boat must not be rocked under any circumstance. Karl Marx wrote some very good articles for the US newspapers regarding China and its socio-economic development in the face of a ruthless imperialist domination. All genuine progressives must retain a lucidity and fluidity of thought in all circumstance (exactly what Mao Zedong did – as he literally “thought” outside his own ethno-centric predicament) – as this is the dialectical way. We must not become trapped in the rather childish Judeo-Christian cul-de-sac of a “good vs bad” dichotomy. Just because someone – or some entity – does not like you observing, discussing, or thinking about a certain aspect (or set of aspects) – this should not necessarily mean that you should abide by this imposed limitation of thought. Remember, this is a channel associated with the ex-UK Labour MPs George Galloway and Chris Williamson, as well as sacked UK academic David Miller. Although there are numerous examples of anti-Socialist pseudo-historians and anti-Semites writing on the Press TV channels – I have extracted a typical exchange between a German and what might be a Romanian – with the Muslim audience remaining supportively “quiet” and-or “liking” the hateful and ridiculous comments. I think it is important to oppose Israeli Zionism and the genocide it is committing – whilst at the same time holding Muslims accountable for normalising Neo-Nazism and Neo-Fascism on the platforms they control. We must also protect the pre-Khrushchev era of the Soviet Union – remembering how great Lenin and Stalin were – and how the Red Army defeated World Fascism.

Of course, the centralised democracy found within Marxist-Leninist countries is far more empowering – but we have to operate where we find ourselves in reality. This New Labour Party is now the enemy of the people. What once acted as a vehicle for many different types of Socialist Movements to gain power(although its middle-class leadership “Proscribed” the Communist Party in 1921) – it is now a soft-conservative sand thoroughly reactionary entity that is shutting down the NHS and torturing the nation’s elderly and disabled. We are not the US and we should not kow tow to the US industrial military complex. We are English and should display some bollocks in this matter! We should stand our ground. I grew-up in a Socialist Britain that was like a Soviet State with very little in common with the US. We must vote as far-left as possible to serve the best interests of the workers. I remember Joseph Stalin stating that he often thought of a poor family suffering due to unemployment – and based all his policies on relieving this injustice. Again, stand your ground. Vote as you will – but maintain your freedom of thought!
