Havana, Mar 18 2026 (ACN) – A contingent made up of more than a hundred activists, representing more than 50 solidarity, political organizations, trade unions and workers emtities from 17 countries, arrived on Tuesday night at Havana’s José Martí International Airport, with a load of approximately five tons of medical supplies and other basic necessities.
The gesture of support for the island is part of the European section of the Our America Convoy, from which other groups will also be arriving in the coming days from different geographical areas – bringing similar loads aimed at alleviating the current tensions caused by the intensification of the policy of maximum asphyxiation applied by the United States Government against the largest island of the Antilles.
Rigoberto Zarza, Director of Europe for the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, explained that the shipment, valued at about 500 thousand euros, will be distributed in coordination with Cuban institutions in four hospitals throughout the capital.
He specified that the initiative was coordinated by the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange for Cuba from Italy and the call of the Progressive Internationalism that was echoed from different platforms, which made it possible to gather the contributions of some 700 people individually and from various solidarity groups in European countries and with representation from Morocco and Algeria for North Africa.
In the same way, he valued this action as being of great importance, not only for what it represents materially at the present time from the medical and humanitarian point of view, but also for the awareness of the particularly complex situation the archipelago is experiencing regarding the energy issue, which is also expressed in the shipment of photovoltaic systems (solar panels).
MEP Marc Botenga, from Belgium, defined the presence on the island in these circumstances as a acting in duty and solidarity with Cuba, which is a victim of Washington’s criminal policy of asphyxiation – whilst Cuba has historically offered its support to the rest of the world in other particularly delicate episodes.
In this way, he recalled the presence of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Italy during the height of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and how its health professionals played a decisive role in the containment of the virus in Italy.
“We come here to remind you that Cuba is not alone, that we accompany you from our countries and return so much of your valuable solidarity!” he said.
Also a French MEP, Emma Fourreau, insisted that the first thing to do for the cause of the Caribbean nation is to talk to the whole world about it and how it is affected by the economic war that is being applied to it.
In this way, she pointed out that by knowing first-hand the Cuban reality they will be able to be better spokespersons for the Cuban struggle at the international level.
“The most important thing is to listen and learn what Cubans have to say; This is a first step, a symbolic action that will attract the attention of the rest of the planet,” she concluded.
Cuba’s ambassador to Italy, Jorge Luis Cepero, went to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport on Tuesday to bid farewell to the members of the European Solidarity Convoy that left for Havana.
The diplomat highlighted in statements to reporters at that air terminal the relevance of the gesture, a sign of the close ties of friendship that unite the peoples of Italy and Cuba, and of the strong rejection in this nation of the genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the island.

La Habana, 18 mar (ACN) Un contingente formado por más de un centenar de activistas, en representación de más de 50 organizaciones solidarias, políticas y colectivos sindicales y obreros de 17 países, arribaron en la noche de este martes por el Aeropuerto Internacional José Martí de La Habana, con una carga aproximada de cinco toneladas de insumos médicos y otros artículos de primera necesidad.
El gesto de apoyo a la isla forma parte de la sesión europea del convoy Nuestra América, del cual estarán llegando también en los próximos días otros grupos desde diferentes áreas geográficas con cargas similares destinadas a aliviar las tensiones actuales que provoca el recrudecimiento de la política de máxima asfixia aplicada por el Gobierno de Estados Unidos contra la mayor de las Antillas.
Rigoberto Zarza, director de Europa del Instituto Cubano de Amistad con los Pueblos, detalló que el envío, valorado en unos 500 mil euros, será distribuido en coordinación con las instituciones cubanas en cuatro hospitales de la capital.
Precisó que la iniciativa estuvo coordinada por la Agencia para el Intercambio Cultural y Económico con Cuba de Italia y el llamado de la Internacional Progresista que encontró eco desde diferentes plataformas, lo cual permitió reunir los aportes de unas 700 personas a título individual y de varios colectivos solidarios, en los países europeos y con representación de Marruecos y Argelia por África del Norte.
De igual manera, valoró esta acción como de gran importancia, no solo por lo que representa materialmente en el momento actual desde el punto de vista médico, humanitario, sino también por la conciencia del momento particularmente complejo que vive el archipiélago en el tema energético, lo cual se expresa también en el envío de sistemas fotovoltaicos.
El eurodiputado Marc Botenga, de Bélgica, definió la presencia en la isla en estas circunstancias como un deber solidario con Cuba, la cual es víctima de la política criminal de asfixia de Washington y que ha brindado históricamente su apoyo al resto del mundo en otros episodios particularmente delicados.
De esta manera, recordó la presencia de la brigada médica cubana en Italia durante el punto álgido del combate contra la pandemia del COVID-19 y como sus profesionales de la salud jugaron un papel decisivo en la contención del virus en Italia.
“¡Venimos aquí a recordarles que Cuba no está sola, que los acompañamos desde nuestros países y devolvemos tanta solidaridad!”, destacó.
La también eurodiputada francesa Emma Fourreau insistió que la primera cosa para hacer por la causa de la nación caribeña es hablar en el mundo entero de ella y como está es afectada por la guerra económica que se le aplica.
De esta manera, señaló que al conocer de primera mano la realidad cubana podrán ser portavoces de esa lucha a nivel internacional.
“Lo más importante es escuchar y aprender lo que tienen que decir los cubanos; esto es un primer paso, una acción simbólica que va a atraer la atención del resto del planeta”, concluyó.
El embajador de Cuba en Italia, Jorge Luis Cepero, acudió este martes al Aeropuerto Fiumicino, de Roma, para despedir a los integrantes del Convoy Europeo de Solidaridad que partió rumbo a La Habana.
El diplomático destacó en declaraciones a reporteros en esa terminal aérea la relevancia del gesto, muestra de los estrechos lazos de amistad que unen a los pueblos de Italia y Cuba, y del fuerte rechazo en esta nación al genocida bloqueo económico, comercial y financiero de Estados Unidos contra la isla.
