Holy Indian Guru Sai Baba!

Venezuela: Sai Baba & Religion in Uncertain Times! (25.11.2025)

Translator’s Note: The USSR cultivated academic experts who possessed the function of studying theistic religion in an objective manner. The concept of academic work being “peer reviewed” in the Soviet context involved the academic being fully “detached” whilst simultaneously “engaging” the subject matter at hand. This process “disarmed” what Lenin described as the “fog” of religion – and facilitated a young mind to engage with a historical subject – so that the subject itself remained harmless and unable to unduly (negatively) influence the observer.

The point is that from a historical and evolutionary perspective – “religion” can be found throughout every human grouping in one form or another. Nature worship evolved into poly-theism, and poly-theism into mono-theism – with the latter assuming its “inverted” view of reality (the idea of “god” in the mind – an imagined spectre – equates to a real and existing “god” in the physical environment) – is “true” and “non-negotiable”. Religion is important because individual human-beings are prepared to be “killed” in its name (I have never understood the use of the term “Martyr” by the left to denote a person who died supporting “historical materialism”) – and are equally prepared to “kill” others in its name (as if believing in an “idea” with no basis in objective reality – justifies possessing or displaying no civilised behaviour).

Human evolution appears to possess a “religious” imperative – which I think might be due to sentient-beings experiencing determined material processes – with no physical ability to prevent these processes from unfolding or occurring. Why does theistic religion persist? Well, we are all born – and we will all cease to physically function at some point in future time and space (that is “die”). Whilst the biologically explainable process of “birth” is generally welcomed (within a range of certain caveats) – death is generally disdained, and herein lies the polarity that gives rise to religion – namely “uncertainty”.

The fundamental human experience (birth and death) presents fertile ground for the religious imagination to fill-in the gaps. It is better to believe in a myth and re-produce the inner conditions of fortitude and comfort in the face of natural processes – than recognise the pre-eminence of material processes and use “science” to solve all of humanity’s physical (and psychiatric) problems. Capitalism prefers to peddle and sell lies (it’s good for business) – whilst (Marxist-Leninist) Socialism tends to seek-out material truth.

Of course, whatever the individual personally benefits from – is a “private” matter – and this is where theistic religion should remain free of pursuing political interference and accumulating temporal power. Finally, a critique of religion is not an attack upon religion. Understanding religion is not a negating of religion. There comes a time when a cogent individual has to politely enquire why it is that certain theistic religions – that possess founders who renounced the physical world and all its material processes – still seek-out political-power and wealth? Today #23Nov (2025), we honour the birth anniversary of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, a being of light who has deeply marked the faith of millions of people in India and around the world. I always remember him when we met and he gave us his blessings, our tribute on the centenary of his birth, my greetings to his people, his family, and the Sai Baba Foundation.

His existence is a living testimony of the divinity that resides in every human being, a beacon of unconditional love, selfless service, and truth.

I hold a deep love for India and its people, and for the memory of Sai Baba, his remembrance renews in me the strength of his eternal message: Peace is the permanent presence of compassion and love.

He taught us that spiritual practice is found in daily action and in the pursuit of unity, beyond differences.

May the wisdom of this great master continue to illuminate us in the mission to build a Homeland of love, Peace, and elevated spirituality.
