Never before have so many people in the US united in support for Palestinian liberation and human rights. Solidarity is surging and Anti-Zionism is on the rise. Zionist organizations like the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of San Francisco are doubling down in their efforts to silence advocacy for Palestine and to mischaracterize critique of Israel as antisemitic. But opposition to Israel’s genocide in Gaza is not antisemitic. It’s an expression of anti-racism.
Last week, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of San Francisco initiated an intimidation campaign against John Avalos, former member of the SF Board of Supervisors and current director of San Francisco’s leading affordable housing coalition, the Council of Community Housing Organizations. JCRC’s immediate goal is to punish Avalos for speaking out about Israel’s genocide in Gaza. But more broadly, this is part of their larger effort to stifle all critique of Israel by mischaracterizing it as antisemitic. JCRC has a long-history of such campaigns, usually targeting people of color-led social justice organizations that take a stand in support of Palestinian rights.
