The China Daoist Association was founded on April 12th, 1957.

The China Daoist Association was established in April 1957, and is a national, patriotic and unified collection of Daoist religious groups and Daoist educational organizations. Its purpose is to unite and lead (through education) Daoist patriotic love for the nation, support for the leadership of the Communist Party of China and the Socialist System, establish Daoist educational centres to carry forward the Daoist teachings, safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Daoist traditions, spread Daoist culture, carry forward the fine traditions, and promote Daoism alongside social development. Adapt to the Socialist Society; actively participate in the building of Socialist material civilization, political civilization, spiritual civilization, and ecological civilization, and play an active role in the construction of a harmonious society – through the promotion of the economic and social development of Daoism. In order to safeguard religious harmony, national unity, social harmony, and Unity of the Motherland, Daoism must also aid and contribute toward World Peace.. The China Daoist Association holds a national representative meeting every five years. An administrative council is elected by the national conference. The standing council is elected by the administrative council. The plenary meeting of the administrative council is held every two years. The standing council meeting is held once a year.

中国道教协会成立于1957年4月，是全国道教徒联合的爱国宗教团体和教务组织。其宗旨是：团结、带领全国道教徒爱国爱教，拥护中国共产党的领导和社会主义制度，兴办道教事业，弘扬道教教义，维护道教界合法权益；传扬道教文化，发扬优良传统，促进道教与社会主义社会相适应；积极参加社会主义物质文明、政治文明、精神文明和生态文明建设，发挥道教在构建和谐社会和促进经济社会发展中的积极作用，为维护宗教和睦、民族团结、社会和谐、祖国统一、世界和平作贡献。中国道教协会每五年举行一次全国代表会议。由全国代表会议选举产生理事会。由理事会选举产生常务理事会。理事会全体会议每二年举行一次。常务理事会议每年举行一次。
