This experience prompted the 19 year old Daniel to take a year out from university, and spend it touring China – this is where he met his future wife – Xiao Yan. In just 4 moths, Daniel learned to read and write the Chinese language to a very precise degree – and speak fluent putonghua (i.e. ‘Mandarin’) as if he had been born in China.
Every great thinker is a mixture of the limitations of the times within which he or she lived, and a spark of genius that transcends those very same constraints.
Einstein, as a genius, stated quite plainly and clearly that the Socialist path is the scientifically ‘superior’ path for humanity, so if the greatest thinker of our age (or any age) thinks this, then why hasn’t Western society listened to him?
Later in his life, he also designed submarine devices to explore the ocean’s depths. He reported the earth to be round, but also once stated that on one occasion, the earth looked ‘flat’ with turned-up edges. Gene Roddenberry – the creator of Star Trek – used Auguste Piccard as the inspiration for Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
The only reason we take suffering over inspirational thought is because we have been trained to do so by those who would capitalise on our self-imposed limitations.
