In his hatred of Communism, Trotsky incites the Nazis to wage war against the Soviet Union. He, an ’eminent expert’ on the Soviet Union, told the Nazis that they had every chance of winning the war against Stalin: the army and the population were demoralized (false!), Stalin frustrated resistance (false!) And that the Stalinists would capitulate at the beginning of the war (false!).
As Trotsky began to read, Ramon Mercader produced an ice-pick hidden within the lining of his jacket, and hit Trotsky in the back of the head – and then tried to finish the job by strangulation – but Trotsky’s bodyguards entered the room and began to beat Ramon Mercader to death.
Indeed, the climate of disunity that Trotsky created for international communism led directly to the 1956 Khrushchev denunciation of Stalin – and the subsequent Sino-Soviet Split.
