The Chinese man featured above is premised upon one of the surviving Titanic Boiler Room Workers – recorded as being named ‘Fang Lang’. He is discovered floating upon a small door (or wooden panel of some kind) and speaks in the Hong Kong Cantonese dialect – calling-out three tines ‘Nor Hai Li Dou Ah! (我喺呢度 – Wo Xe Ne Du)’ Or ‘I am over here!’ – with the Cantonese ‘Ah’ particle added to generate emphasis (this ‘Ah’ particle does not possess a corresponding ‘Putonghua’ ideogram).
The BBC recently tried to seduce the licence-fee paying public with a four-part mini-series regarding the sinking of the Titanic. Two so-called “experts” were ex-military – one had been wounded in the illegal war in Afghanistan and the other surveyed the sinking of a Royal Navy ship during the Falklands War – whilst a third was described as a “Psychologist of Disaster” – a YouTube qualification if ever I have heard of one. Dodgy qualifications aside (the ex-military “experts” did not possess the objectivity of thought to even cognise the falsehood of te causes they killed others in the name of) but most the facts were as false as the narratives being established. There was the usual ahistorical presentation of the make-up of today’s UK being projected into the past – where it did not exist. The Titanic was made to look like a present-day mini-UK – as if this is normal in the past, present, and future.
James Cameron, in his 1998 epic entitled “Titanic” – did try to feature some of the eight Chinese men who were aboard the Titanic and present during the sinking. He was warned by his US backers that if he persisted with this side-narrative (portraying the Chinese in a sympathetic or heroic light) – he risked losing his financial backing. He cut the scenes regarding a Chinese characyer – but did add these scenes as “extras” on the bluray. True to the anti-Chinese racism that exists in the West – whereas implausible foreigners were featured as somehow connected to the Titanic (and by extension – to the UK) – the Chinese passengers were completely ignored and air-brushed out of existence. It really is something when even the potential death of an unpopular ethnic group is deliberately ignored! I researched this fascinating subject in 2023 in Chinese-language sources – and my translation can be read HERE:
