Blogger’s Note: Prior to 1956 – the USSR assisted China with its free healthcare. A free Khrushchev’s betrayal of Stalin in 1956 – the Sino-Soviet Split occurred and the USSR slowly withdrew its direct support for Chinese Socialism. This even led to open warfare on the Soviet-China Border throughout the 1960s. China carried-on with its free healthcare – but as an impoverished nation – it was difficult to sustain. Following the Opening-Up in the 1980s – free healthcare was restricted and a paid healthcare introduced. This policy, although difficult (I prefer the free health model no matter what), was probably required so that China could build-up its own wealth (through trade) and then re-distribute that wealth into a new healthcare system – which we are beginning to see the effects of today.
A colleague of my partner carried-out a year of Midwifery work in the “free” healthcare system of China that exists for everyone without any savings or funds. She travelled throughout all the villages and was treated with the utmost attitude of respect (she is “White”). In the 1990s, the BBC put out a “fake” documentary made in Taiwan entitled something like the “Killing Room” – where it falsely alleged that Chinese Nurses deliberately “starved” babies to death in sound-proofed rooms. This film was made by the CIA and although not true – was designed to keep the anti-China (racist) attitudes alive and well – and aimed at all ethnic Chinese people. Chinese people have to learn to live in two parallel worlds – one where their advanced culture is dominant and progressive – and the other where White people treat them as sub-human and little more than dog-sh’t on the floor. As an Englishman, I support “fairness” and “good behaviour”.
The truth of the matter is that the Chinese people, regardless of the behaviour of certain individuals, are a product of an extraordinary and advanced ancient culture that has decided the thinking of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels is correct – as interpreted by Lenin, Stalin, and Mao – with certain caveats and qualifications. As an Englishman – I agree with this Chinese assessment. I think the Chinese are correct and we in the West should stop supporting predatory capitalism and pursue the Socialist path as a means to eradicate all the unnecessary suffering implicit in profit-led living. Most Chinese people I have met – and I have lived in China and in many different Chinese diasporic communities – are very loving and effective carers of babies and children. Indeed, the Chinese people love children! The West should stop telling racist lies about Chinese people! ACW (14.12.2025)

BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) — China has announced an ambitious plan to make childbirth essentially free for parents under national insurance guidelines by 2026.
The move, revealed at a national healthcare security conference on Saturday, is part of a broader strategy to address the country’s declining birth rate by reducing the financial burden of having children.
Authorities said they will enhance medical expense coverage for prenatal check-ups based on the affordability of the national medical insurance fund.
The goal for next year is to ensure the basic costs of childbirth are fully covered by insurance programs nationwide, with individuals paying nothing out-of-pocket for standard delivery services within policy limits.
Seven provincial-level regions, including Jilin, Jiangsu and Shandong, already provide full coverage for in-hospital childbirth medical expenses within the policy scopes.
Officials noted that the commitment applies to standard medical services. If expecting parents choose premium-priced hospitals, or opt for medications or materials not included in the basic insurance catalogue, those additional expenses will not be reimbursed.
The National Healthcare Security Administration is also planning to expand maternity insurance eligibility to include flexible workers, migrant workers, and people in new forms of employment, among other measures designed to encourage childbirth.
China’s maternity insurance now covers approximately 255 million people.
