With more than 10 million students enrolling in colleges and universities each year amid a boom in the higher education sector, China is building an expanding and highly skilled workforce, Lei said.

Official data shows that, by the end of 2025, China had about 851.36 million people ages 16 to 59, and that group had an average of 11.3 years of schooling, up 0.1 year from a year earlier.

Lei added that the annual number of newborns has remained at about 8 million despite an overall downward trend.

“Compared with other developed and developing countries, very few have births at this level, so China will still have a relatively ample labour force in the future,” he said.

Lei noted that China will continue to roll out fertility-friendly measures to ease the burden of childbirth, child-rearing and education.

Among the latest fertility support policies are the rollout of a fertility subsidy, which has so far benefited more than 30 million families, and the establishment of nearly 12,600 early pregnancy care clinics nationwide, providing counselling and assessments.

I believe the current leader did a deal with Trump and new in advance about the murder of the 32 Cuban bodyguards and Maduro’s kidnap. Her first act was to re-establish diplomatic links with Israel and give Israel oil (I believe “free”) to continue its genocide against Gaza. This was the oil originally given (free) to Cuba. You see the issues. Meanwhile, the far-right candidate that Trump gave the Nobel Peace Prize to (what a piece of shit entity that so-called “Prize” is) – “disappeared” from public view because of this deal (she literally was not required). The hand-over of Venezuela was stage-managed to Cuba’s detriment. How long can Cuba hold-out? The so-called “Socialists” in Venezuela stopped issuing pro-Cuba statements as soon as Maduro was out the country. Today, there is only silence from the new (Trotskyite) regime. I suspect the US will launch a military strike against Cuba and annex the island. Show Trials will then begin – together with intense false propaganda offensives about “how evil” Socialism is! The US-controlled UN will pursue a plan of “doing nothing” and strategically “condemning” as and when it suits them.

This creates begging and a sense of “lacking” (there is no money to purchase the necessities of life). Within the traditional modes of existing – money – a) does not exist and b) therefore does not dictate well-being or existence. On the other hand, tradition never changes or is permitted to alter – as such deviation from established norms present a “danger” to the well-being of those who live under its sway. Buddhist monastic life was developed within an ancient agrarian system – but not a modern or capitalistic version. It was a reaction to the Brahmanic caste system. The Buddha lived in a North Indian Republic which elected its secular officials. Followers of Brahma definitely existed – but at that time Brahmin priests had not yet usurped the kings and warriors (Kshatriya) who then administered society (the Buddha was of the Kshatriya caste – before he rejected Brahmanism) and his father the elected leader, etc. Later, the Brahmins would manoeuvre themselves above the warriors and kings – creating a revolutionary repositioning within the caste system (this is where matters stand in India). Sri Lanka, of course, is a Buddhist country with only a small Hindu population – although I did witness Buddhist monks carrying-out various (vegetarian) rituals for local Hindus living in areas around Colombo. This might be because Hindus today view the Buddha as an avatar of the god Vishnu.

Seven provincial-level regions, including Jilin, Jiangsu and Shandong, already provide full coverage for in-hospital childbirth medical expenses within the policy scopes.

Officials noted that the commitment applies to standard medical services. If expecting parents choose premium-priced hospitals, or opt for medications or materials not included in the basic insurance catalogue, those additional expenses will not be reimbursed.

The National Healthcare Security Administration is also planning to expand maternity insurance eligibility to include flexible workers, migrant workers, and people in new forms of employment, among other measures designed to encourage childbirth.

China’s maternity insurance now covers approximately 255 million people.

COVID-19 killed more than 230,000 people in the UK, one of the highest death tolls in Europe.

The COVID-19 inquiry is chaired by Baroness Heather Hallett, a former Court of Appeal judge. The inquiry is split into four areas: resilience and preparedness; core UK decision making and political governance; the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare systems; vaccines, therapeutics and antiviral treatment.

Hallett said she intends to publish the report on the first area of work by early summer 2024.
